New thread: ...As I do NOT have the time to wade through dozens of previous threads. Surely there is a better way to offer support to your users?? Anyway....I installed the flash player..and it is not working at all. It WAS working fine, previously!?

Please advise how to get your flash player to work again on this machine, that was working fine for a long time, before suddenly it stopped working.

My computer is:

Mac OS X 10.7.5

i Mac 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7

12GB 1333 Mhz DDR3

I use the Chrome browser (Version 49.0.2623.112 (64-bit)

I much prefer a live person on the phone, or at the very least, an email correspondence.

Thank you

It's not working because Chrome 49 uses the embedded Flash Player plugin.  It doesn't use the 'system' (i.e. non-embedded version) plugin that you just installed, as Chrome isn't aware of the 'system' plugin location to use it.  This has been the case since Google embedded Flash Player in Chrome (many years ago).  Recent version of Chrome are aware of the non-embedded Flash Player version location and will use it if the version installed there is newer than the embedded version, but Chrome 49 is much too old to have this functionality.

You can trying hacking it by doing the following, but there's no guarantee it's going to work, as Chrome will continue to reoort the Flash Player version of the embedded Flash Player and not the non-embedded Flash Player version:

  1. Launch Chrome
  2. Navigate to chrome://plugins
  3. Click +Details in the upper right to expand the plugin details
  4. Locate Flash Player entry and make note of the Flash Player directory path
  5. Quit Chrome
  6. In Finder go to the location obtained in step 4
  7. Make a copy of the PepperFlashPlayer.plugin file
  8. In Finder navigate to MacHD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/PepperFlashPlayer
  9. Copy the files in this location to the location obtained in step 4
  10. Launch Chrome

Again, you're going to continue to get the 'plugin is out of date' message because Chrome is going to continue to report the version of Flash Player for the embedded version, not the one you just copied to the Chrome Flash Player location.  This may or may not work.

Additionally, Flash Player is no longer supported on OS X 10.7.  This means we do not develop for, nor test on, OS X 10.7 and there's no guarantee it'll function as expected on this version of OS X. See Tech specs | Adobe Flash Player for the currently supported operating systems and browsers.

Thank you Maria (from Adobe) for your answer to "annoyed adobe user"'s question — as I had the very same question. I, too, am running Mac OS 10.7.5 Lion with Chrome 49.0.2623.112 (the highest Chrome version that will install on this Mac OS).
Regarding Chrome and Flash Player, I wasn't aware that there is both an embedded and non-embedded version of Flash Player for Chrome. And too, I appreciate your information that Chrome version 49 "is too old" to recognize and automatically compensate for differences in embedded and non-embedded versions of Flash Player.
