Flash Installation Issues

Hello.  I am running XP and have had a virus issue.  Malware Bytes has cleaned my computer, but my Flash will not work.  I have deleted all old versions and tried to install the new, even using the manual installer.  All installers show that Flash has been installed, yet when I go to the Adobe site to check, I can not see that it is working, nor will any programs run that need Flash.  I have also gone to the control panel in add/remove and Flash shows up there, but not when it was installed, last used, et cetera.  Help, please.  I am not particularly computer literate, so please be specific.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply; this forum is extremely busy these days...

What web browser are you using - Internet Explorer?  If yes, go to Tools | Add-ons, and see if you can find Sockwave Flash object in there - is it enabled?

If not, your virus infection may have set the so-called "kill-bit" in your registry.  Since you mention that you are "not particularly computer literate", I will not ask you to go into the Windows registry.

Instead, go to this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/3434922#3434922 and download file Remove_kill-bit.zip at the bottom of the post; save it to disk, e.g. your desktop.

Next, double-click on the downloaded file on your desktop, and this will probably open a Windows Explorer window with a file Remove_kill-bit.reg in it.  Double-click on the file to run it.  This will remove that "kill-bit" from the registry, if it existed.  If id did not exist, nothing will happen.

Now open Internet Explorer again and see if Flash Player is working.  If yes, you can remove that downloaded file from your desktop.

If it still does not, please post again.
