Question

Flash "missing" in new Napster

Currently have a non-working copy of Flash player - been round the " Ensure flash player is enabled/installed/active x "off circle several times. Using IE11 and Windows 8.1 still have Napster telling me Flash is missing.

Everything is enabled in control panel - no Active x filtering. Works perfectly in Chrome. Has anyone come across this (and better still) solved it as it really is starting to bug me now!

    Hi,

When using IE11 are there other sites that report Flash Player is not installed, or is just Napster?  Have you tried selecting Compatibility Mode?

Essentially Microsoft has been changing the way they identify the IE in the User Agent string.  Many sites rely on the User Agent string to detect the OS and browser and display the content.  If Flash works on some sites and not others this could be why. If so, it's up to the content (website) owner to update their site to work in IE.

One reason it works in Chrome and not IE is because those are two different types of Flash Player.  IE uses the ActiveX Control, Chrome uses the PPAPI plugin.  Beginning with Windows 8, Microsoft embeds Flash Player in IE.  All Flash Player updates come via Internet Explorer updates.  If you haven't performed a Windows update recently, you may want to do that to ensure you have the latest version installed..  Google has been embedding Flash Player in Chrome longer than Microsoft has in IE.  All updates to Flash Player come either via Chrome updates or Chrome component updates.
