Flash not working on some sites in Chrome

New problem as of a couple of days with no known changes to the system.  Two sites I use are not working. One is essential for my work. I have the latest everything (see below).

How can I get these sites to work?

1. practicefusion.com hangs on login. It is flash based.

2. pandora.com throws this when I go to it:

"Please ensure you are using the latest Flash Player.
If you are unable or do not wish to upgrade your Flash Player, please try a different browser."

Using this url allows me to go to the site:

http://www.pandora.com/?disableForceFlash=true

  1. YouTube plays videos just fine.
  2. The Adobe site check shows no animation at https://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ and it tries to download a dir file.
  3. When I click "test your flash player installation" the top of the page is white and it shows versions and that mine is the latest one.
  4. Is Flash Installed? says YES.
  5. https://www.whatismybrowser.com/is-flash-installed ‌  Says YES.
  6. I have closed and opened the browser, rebooted the computer, cleared my cache.
  7. I have enabled the OS's Flash, enabled Chrome's flash. Chrome://plugins shows pepperchrome enabled now as enabling the OS's Windows one did not solve the issue. I did close and open my browser after doing each configuration.
  8. I went to Incognito mode and pandora still threw the error, so it's not extensions.
  9. I have checked chrome://conflicts and there are none.
  10. I have run my Windows Defender scan.
  11. The Google Software Removal Tool https://www.google.com/chrome/srt‌  said "No programs found".

I saw this but have not done it cause I don't understand the implications:  "Try typing chrome:flags into your address bar and enabling "threaded compositing" and "gpu compositing""

Windows 8.1 64 bit. I was literally forced into this from W8.  It rebooted itself and everything.

Adobe Flash Player - Version: 17.0.0.134

Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0

Chrome  41.0.2272.118 m

Thanks for this.  Actually, the one place that I failed to provide a link would have made that more clear.  #3 above is actually the Flash check link.  Seems they have it integrated into the Shockwave page because of the confusion.  I got a white box and no animation.

But!

I wanted to share with you what I just discovered in case it can hopefully help someone else in the future.  The other day I got annoyed by an auto playing video and learned that you can disable that in Chrome, meaning you always have to click a video to play it.  I was reminded of this while researching.  I went back and changed the setting and pandora and my other flash based site now work just fine.

So!  Ask people if they have disabled auto playing videos in Chrome's settings!

I'm bummed at how many hours I spent working on this.  I hope this helps someone in the future.

Yeah, NPAPI Flash Player is no longer supported in Chrome.  It's good that you have the PPAPI one enabled.  You may also want to check Always Allow.

Shockwave is a separate product (the confusing naming is a legacy mess left over from mergers and acquisitions in the 90s), but that page is unrelated to Flash.

Here's the Flash equivalent.  You *should* see an animation there.  Adobe - Flash Player

Are you running any ad-blocking or privacy tracking software?  AdBlock Pro, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, NoScript, etc?  This is what it feels like based on your description.
