flash.ocx required to run program..

Hello,

I am being driven a bit crazy by an error message that started yesterday afternoon.  I am using a program called Activstudio and up until yesterday it worked fine.

Yesterday morning I went to update the adobe flashplayer on my system and in doing so uninstalled the existing adobe products.  Firstly I was told my flashplayer was already installed in my chrome system and I was unable to install a separate version but I found a way round this using a link on a help forum and installed the lastest flashplayer 10.1. 

I then started to get an error message when I opened the activstudio program (everything else seems to work fine) which said that this version of windows does not have the file flash.ocx which is required to run the program.  I have installed and uninstalled the adobe flashplayer and shockwave player on a number of occasions now, the final versions I have are as above.  I have searched on the net for about 4 hours trying out the advice that people have given for similar problems.  One advised to copy the flash.ocx file and repaste it into the c: windows\system32\macromed\flash folder, however the flash.ocx file does not exist so I cannot do this.  I have even downloaded the flash.ocx file by itself and put it into the folder but nothing seems to work...  I do not have the original software cds for the program as this is a program that I was given by a school for teaching purposes...

any help would be very gratefully received as I cannot access any of my lessons...

    just incase it helps anyone else I have had my question answered (at least I can move on without using the adobe stuff) on the microsoft site:>

    Try system restore and check the result. If it doesn't help then you'll have to get the software to reinstall the program successfully.
    Step 1: Restore the computer to an earlier time when it was working fine
    a. Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list.
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
    b. In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
    c. In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
    d. Click Finish.
    e. Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

    I did the restore and my program works fine now.. I just won't be able to update the adobe software...

    Hi, I wish you would have came to the Flash forum first. The "flash.ocx" is indeed required since this is the Shockwave Flash Object...ActiveX Control that is Installed into the IE browser. The non-IE browsers receive the SWF plugin. Both work with the Flash Player files that are Installed. And both must be Enabled. It could have been yours may have just be Disabled and that is why you received that message.

    Your program was simply telling you this Control was missing for some reason. The Flash Player Uninstaller removes the old version and the Flash Player Installer Installs the new version, including the Control in IE. If Flash Player is wanted to be Installed in any of the non-IE browsers, then there is an Installer for those as well.

    You can test here with each browser and you should be able to see the animation and it will also tell you what version of Flash Player you have Installed.
