IE8 (Internet Explorer version 8) was released before Vista.
If you have Vista and you've NEVER udated it (ever) it'll have IE8

If you have Windows 7 and have never updated it (ever) it'll have IE9

If you have Windows 8 and have never updated it (ever) it'll have IE10

If you have Windows 8.1 it'll have IE11.

Regardless, the script error is most likely caused by ActiveX controls.

Use the offline installer, which doesn't require you to have IE open when you run it.

Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)

RIGHT CLICK that link and select "Save target as".

Save the file, and close IE completely.

THEN run the installer.

Mike...thanks for staying with me on this...downloaded file and installed with IE not open...Adobe now says "The Installer needs your attention...the flash settings manager is currently open...please close the Flash Player Settings Manager and try again".  I have nothing open in my tray that would be related to Adobe...help!
