Question

Flash Player 16.0.0.296 ?

Windows 7-SP1

Today I noticed that my Flash Player (both ActiveX and NPAPI) have silently updated to 16.0.0.296, but I cannot find any announcement or Security Bulletin.

Furthermore, the downloads at

and the distribution page still contain the 16.0.0.287 installers.

What is going on?

Flash Player 16.0.0.305 is now available via automatic background update.

As with the last update, no explicit installer downloads are available yet.

Hello,

All of the other installers should be available now (get.adobe.com/flashplayer, help pages, licensing, etc). Although, for some reason, the version on the Licensing page has not yet been updated.  We are following up on this issue.

why are my plug-in's with PAPPI (out-of-Process)?

Hi Keaton,

PPAPI plugins are out-of-process by design.  This is for security reasons, if something happens (i.e. crash, then only that one process is affected, not others.

You can learn more about the difference between NPAPI and PPAPI here Chromium Blog: The road to safer, more stable, and flashier Flash.

Google is also work deprecating the NPAPI plugin on Chrome.  Sometime in the future, only the PPAPI plugin will work on Chrome.

Hi m_vargas thanks for the reply.

It seem that Flash version 16.0.0.296 (dubugger) has corrected the native client process.

Here's what I found out:

UPDATED: Security Advisory for Adobe Flash Player (APSA15-01)

You probably already know that now.

Thanks; didn't know that.  I was looking for something like http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb15-03.html (which is a 404).

I just plugged the version number into Google to get that link, so it might be a good alternative search method if you need to source these things out in a hurry.
