Flash Player 21.0.0.242 won't work on Firefox 46.0.1 after installing Windows 10

Flash Player 21.0.0.242 won't work on Firefox 46.0.1 after installing Windows 10 on a Dell XPS 17 L702X laptop computer. It continually crashes. It works fine using IE and Chrome.

I've tried the following solutions:

   -Disabling Add-Ons on Firefox

-Doing a clean install of Flash Player

   -Doing a reinstall of Firefox

When I use “Flash Player Help” to check if Flash Player is installed, it says my operating system is Windows 7. It's not; it's Windows 10. I used the download recommend when I accessed the Adobe website.

What do I need to do to get Flash Player to work on Firefox?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, WOW64 indicates this is the 32-bit version.  64-bit Firefox may resolve the crashing behaviour you are experiencing.  You can try installing that to see if it helps.  You can always revert to the 32-bit version at a later time.  I'm not sure if you can have both the 32- and 64-bit installed at the same time.

The information you posted, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0, is the User Agent string, which is used to identify the OS and browser version on the internet.  It's very interesting in that the Firefox User Agent string is identifying the OS as Windows 7, not Windows 10.  Windows NT 6.1 = Windows 7 and Windows NT 10 = Windows 10 (see Operating System Version (Windows). The Flash Player Help uses the User Agent string information to detect the OS and browser.  Since Firefox is advertising the OS as Windows 7, it's the reason why the page detected the OS as Windows 7, instead of Windows 10 (from your first post).

For another test on OS identification, launch Internet Explorer and navigate to http://whatsmyuseragent.com/ Does it show Windows NT6.1 or Windows 10 for the operating system?

I'm not sure why Firefox would be identifying the OS as Windows 7 if you upgraded to Windows 10.  You can try completely uninstalling Firefox, or Refreshing Firefox.  Either one of these will delete your bookmarks, add-ons, preferences, etc, so you'll want to save your bookmarks, make note of the add-ons  you have and any other preferences before uninstalling or refreshing Firefox.  After re-installing, or refreshing, Firefox either go to about:support or http://whatsmyuseragent.com/  and see if Firefox is still detecting the OS as Windows 7 (Windows NT 6.1) or if it now detects it as Windows 10.  If it's still Windows 7 it's possible something went awry with the Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade.

I downloaded the 64-bit version of Firefox and Flash Player now works

fine. I left the 32-bit version on my computer for the time being.

Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

    Hi,

IE, Chrome, and Firefox each use a different version of Flash Player.  IE uses the ActiveX Control, Chrome uses the PPAPI plugin, and Firefox uses the NPAPI plugin

It's odd the widget is returning Windows 7 after you've upgraded to Windows 10.  Can you please try the followign:

    • Launch the command-prompt (in the search field type: cmd and then select Command Prompt from the results)
    • At the prompt type: systeminfo
    • After the info is output, what does it have for OS NAME and OS VERSION

See the 'correct answer' to the post, Firefox, flash player blocked by webbrowser?? (ignore the first recommendation as you've already tried it) for a number of ways to troubleshoot Flash Player issues in Firefox that may be helpful.
