Flash Player 22.0.0.192 (Mac) is choking my system

This has been an ongoing problem for years.  If I leave Safari open with various tabs (typically news sites), over a fairly short amount of time Flash Player begins to consume more and more memory--far exceeding what I actually have in terms of real memory.  Consequently, this forces my entire system to slow to a crawl with applications not responding for minutes on end.  I have to force-quit Safari and then reopen based on the last session.  This has been happening more and more frequently making the browser experience miserable.  I should note that the behavior is better with Firefox for what it's worth.

In general, this is the result of bad behavior on the part of content providers and advertisers. What I frequently see is advertising code running on news sites loading hundreds or thousands of assets, frequently in a tight loop. Many will just load assets indefinitely until they exhaust the available memory.

You can watch this happen by looking at the network activity in the browser's developer tools. In general, some kind of ad-blocking plug-in will resolve a lot of that stuff.
