Flash player 22 doesn't launch on Windows XP2

I downloaded latest Flash player version 22 from Adobe site , but it does not want to launch when I click on install file - just nothing happens , it does not even start the download .

Firefox automatically deactivate Flash Player version installed , therefore I have problems viewing Flash contents .

I am not an expert on computers (old fashion old man) , so I would appreciate a step by step solution to help me solve this problem .

- Properties in file of flash Player downloaded : File name : " flashplayer22au_ha_install.exe " -

Version : Adobe Download Manager = 2.0.0.113

- Flash player applications installed : Adobe Flash player 21 NPAPI - and - Adobe Flash Player 15 ActiveX

- Other Adobe products installed on my PC : Adobe Reader XI (11.0.08) - Adobe Shockwave Player 12.2

- Op System : Windows XP2 ---- (Cannot install XP3 as it deactivate major applications I use on my PC)

- Browser : Firefox 47.0 (latest version)

XP SP2 doens't support sha256 certificates, which is used by the online installer. the offline installer that Chris point's to should work.

Thanks for the answer !

- I already tried that suggested link in the "still having problems" section ; but IT DOESN'T WORK EITHER .

- I turned on automatic download for flash player ; but it simply opened the download page for version 22 and the problem is still the same .

- As I mentioned in my first message , I cannot upgrade to XP3 , as I use some softwares important for me , which will not work anymore on XP3 .

- Can't Adobe really not find a work around solution for us XP2 users who cannot upgrade to XP3 , or some who cannot afford buying a new machine ?

P.S. : I have read these days that Microsoft , Apple and Firefox are dropping Flash player for security reasons . Could that be a reason for install not launching ? What is Adobe planning to do about it ?

I hope you will soon find a solution to fix the install problem that apprently manyy are facing .

It has nothing to do with the inaccurate reports of Microsoft, Apple, Firefox dropping FP, which they are not. The reason the installer doesn't launch is because the installer is signed with the latest supported sha256 signing certificate. XP SP2 does not support sha256. It only supports sha1, which is old unsupported, and completely insecure. This isn't limited only to Flash Player installers. This is for any installer or website (https) that uses a sha1 certificate.

If you still have Flash Player installed, you can try opting into Background Updates (different from notification updates). Go to The Control Panel and select to view the items in Classic View. Locate the Flash Player item and open it. Go to the Updates tab and select the option 'Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)'. Exit out of the Flash Player Setings Panel. Flash Player will check for an update, silently in the background and update Flash Player if an update is available. Since you have old versions of Flash Player ActiveX and NPAPI plugin, both of these should be updated within 24 hrs.
