Flash Player 9 Not Working on Mac OS X

I just installed the Flash Player 9 on my Power PC based Mac OS X 10.3.9 and now no Flash elements work in Safari 1.3.2, or even Explorer (which I don't use). I have been sure to close all browsers, uninstall first etc. The installations appears to complete successfully, but I get the following error message on any page that has flash:

The page “Adobe” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “Shockwave Flash”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.

Worse yet, any attempts to install on older version of the player now give me the same error. I can no longer view any Flash!

If anyone can help (Adobe!), it would be much appreciated.

Another thought: I just reported this to Apple via bug report in Safari. Maybe if several wrote Apple, they could get to the Adobe people, and find out what is going on.

I'm having the same problem, only I'm on an Intel-based MacBook. This only happened after I downloaded the trial version of Flash 8, which I have since removed from my computer, but Flash player still doesn't work in any of my browsers. No matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall.

Both my iBook and iMac G5, where the trouble was, are Power PCs, rather than Intel. If you could somehow delete the files mentioned in my previous email source, and copy from another Intel pc, it might work. It is a mess, though, and would be good to know what causes the problem. Meanwhile, I will NOT download/install a new version, and think Adobe needs to address this, big time. Apparently, from looking around, it is also a problem on Windows PCs?

I guess as long as Adobe remains impossible to contact, we will just have to figure it out. Good luck!

My friend just updated to FP 9.0.28 FROM FP 9.0.20 on OSX 10.4 (Tiger). Nothing would display so here is what we did:

    STEP 1:
    Deleted Macromedia folder under <user>/Library/Preferences
    Deleted /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Flash Player Enabler.plugin (if there)
    Deleted /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Flash Player.plugin (if there)
    Deleted/Library/Internet Plug-ins/flashplayer.xpt (if there)

    STEP 2:
Go to some other system and get a copy of the OLDER 9.0.20 (which works) and replace this one folder, and the three files. The folder is about 600K and the three files are about 3.4 MB. I am pretty sure that the three files are (hidden) folders so you may have to archive them (I did) to move them.

Once this was done, everything worked as before. If you have problems with getting the older version contact me at: cgillette@thehollyhockcompany.com and I will try to help you.

Many, many thanks to primes235. AFter hours of trying to uninstall, reinstall, etc., I used his directions (see step 1, etc., on his 12/16/06 post. I was able to drag those files (enable file sharing IF you are networked) from another computer, and all is working fine now. These files were not really invisible/hidden; just be sure you delete the ones specified before moving the new ones.

hI am still not sure why this happened, except I was following directions that I needed to update flash from

    ttp://ecard.ashland.edu/2004admission/index.html

Either that site is buggy, or the new flash is. From the comments before this, I don't expect a reply from Adobe either. I tried calling them, but no luck. Crappy customer/tech support. Hope this helps someone, and thanks again primes235.

I went for about a week of broken Flash messages and suddenly, without any action on my part, Flash seems to be working again.

The ONLY thing I can imagine may have made the difference is that I took my computer on a weekend trip where it was "off" for periods of time. My computer is otherwise always on at home. Maybe something was able to clear or reset itself.

I'm glad it's working again, but not knowing the answer leaves me troubled.

I know it is a free player, but now it is acting like a minor virus on my computer when I use the internet. It's awful. If I could uninstall it it would be one thing.... but that doesn't even work!!! ARGHHHHHHHHH!

I am having the same problem. Installed Flash Player 0 Power PC based Mac osx 10.3.9 and I am having a message nearly all of the time that says: "this page has content of mime type Application x-shockwave flash. Because you don't have a plugin installed for this mime type, this content can't be displayed. I have installed and re-installed the flash player from adobe but it will not work or become active. I can't help you but maybe someone can help us.
