Flash Player Active X fails to install on some PC with error 1040

Hello.

We are trying to update a bunch of PC with latest version of active X for IE using the .exe distribution install_flash_player_22_active_x.exe

This is done via a .bat file when the user logs in to his Windows Session with following command:

\\afg.corp\netlogon\Flash\install_flash_player_22_active_x.exe -install >> %TEMP%\Flash_install_exe_22.log

We test the ERRORLEVEL and I would say over 50% of the times we get an error number 1040 and nothing is installed. This happens repeatedly.

The redirected output does not generate the log file mentioned above but I imagine that is due to the fact that it is a completely silent installation.

Any help will be appreciated. If any additional information required please let me know.

Thanks

Miguel

What is the OS on the impacted systems?

Flash Player generates its own log file, FlashInstall.log file, in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash, and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash on 64-bit operating systems.

Error 1040 is due to Flash Player being unable to uninstall one of its components (Flash Player Settings Manger, saved in the Control Panel).  This could be for various reasons.

I'll need to get the FlashInstall.log file from an impacted system to troubleshoot further.  Please upload the FlashInstall.log file (both if the impacted system is 64-bit) to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows? .  Post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.
