Trying to update Flash Player ActiveX; no matter what I do, it won't update; it goes through all the steps and then nothing; this has been an ongoing issue for months; any suggestions

I would try uninstalling the old version via Control Panel first. Do you actually use Internet Explorer? If no, then you don't really need the ActiveX version; there are separate versions for Chrome and Firefox. If yes, then go to the download site using IE and it should give you the ActiveX version.
