Flash Player Causes Mac Web Browser to Freeze

Hi All,

On my mac mini, every web browser (I've tried both safari and Chrome) freezes while loading any webpage that has any flash content.  I have tried, uninstalling and reinstalling flash, installing an older version of flash, installing flash with a different user account, ensured that all extensions were disabled with the extension manager, repaired the disk permissions, checked the disk for errors and troubleshooted the ICC profiles to no avail.

Mac OS: X 10.6.6 (10J567)

Browsers:

     Google Chrome: 9.0.597.102

     Safari: 5.0.3

Is anyone aware of a fix to this problem?

Downgrading to version 9.0 solves the problem

Hi, Check to make sure the Shockwave Flash plugin is Enabled for Safari.

you can go to this site and right click on the Flash logo, Settings, Display Settings. UNcheck the hardware acceleration.

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    See if this helps.

You shouldn't be having any issue with Chrome, since Flash Player is embedded with it now.

    Just visiting the site:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

causes safari to crash due to the flash content.  In chrome, the page would load to the point where I could right click on the flash icon and get the settings dialog box up, however then that dialog box freezes so that I can't uncheck the hardware acceleration box, or click on the other tabs in that dialog or click on the close box.  Other than through this dialog box, is there anyway I disable hardware acceleration or does anyone have any other suggestions that I should follow?

Hi, I think there is more of a problem than turning off the hardware accleration. I'm not sure Flash Player is Installed correctly or if the needed plugin in Safari is enabled. Did you check that? That link I gave you should have shown the Flash logo animate as soon as the site opened and the Flash Player version would have been displayed. Did you see that?

Also you must use the 32bit browser of Safari and not the 64bit browser. Maybe that was the issue?

    Location of plugins
Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have the below two files:
        Flash Player.plugin
        flashplayer.xpt

        From another thread:
Here's what I have in the Library related  to the Flash Player:
        DirectorShockwave.plugin version  11.5.6r606
        Flash Player.plugin version 10.0 r45
Flashplayer.xpt  version not specified  (this is some kind of Apple Script.)

Let me know on the above.

    Thanks,
