Question

Flash Player does not work properly

Hello,

I have been having trouble with this for a while. To sum it up briefly, nothing really works properly. Anything that uses flash does not run properly, including videos and online flash games. For example, things often stop loading at 99% or 100%. I often get a black screen if I click on whatever is trying to load. Youtube videos also won't load properly. They often run for a while, but then freeze up and stop playing. This also happens with any videos, not just youtube. I'm using IE8 on Windows 7, and I have flash version 10.3.181.23. Please help, this is very annoying!

Also if it means anything I have another computer, although much older that runs flash perfectly fine, which is wierd.

Hi, I meant to have you go to this site and right click on the Flash Player logo or ad banner if there is one there and then turn off the hardware acceleration. After you right click, then click on Settings and Display Settings. UNcheck the box of hardware acceleration.

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

Thanks for all your help! However I solved it myself (at least, I think it's all solved :-)

I realized I still had Norton Security installed on my computer from when I used to use it. I uninstalled it and everythings faster, and now flash works! Yay!

    Anyways I appreciate your help!

Hi, No wonder!! I can't imagine a worse combination than Norton plus anything:-) Well, maybe McAfee, LOL

I hope you used the Norton Removal Tool, since like McAfee they Install deep into the System. I always think if they can't find a file to Install into, they will make the file

Glad you figured out what the problem was!!

Thanks for the feedback and marking your thread as answered. I think if others read your thread, at least they will think that they too may have more than one Anti-Virus and check for that.

Hi, Sorry you are having so many problems and I can relate to the frustration. I think a lot of it is due to the changes not only with Flash Player, but Win7 and the browsers. I have an older (8-9 yr old XP:-)

I would like to have you check your Flash files so we can see first of all if Flash Player is Installed correctly. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open the Flash folder and let me know what files are listed there. I don't need any Install log info.  In case you have a 64bit OS, use the same path, except instead of System32, enter SysWOW64 instead.

Then using IE8, go to Tools, Manage addons and under "Show"(light text) look for Shockwave Flash Object. Let me know if it's Enabled and what version it is.

Do you use any adblock or pop up blocking software?

With IE, go to Tools, Internet Options and under the Security Tab, make sure it's set to Medium for the Internet Zone.

    What Anti-Virus/Spyware programs are Installed?

    Thanks,

Well, I did what you said and I guess I have a 64bit OS because I had to go through SysWOW64. The files there are:

    Flash10s.ocx

    FlashInstall

    FlashUtil10s_ActiveX.dll

    FlashUtil10s_ActiveX

    install

I did the manage addons thing, and while I see the 'show' text, ShockWave Flash Object isn't directly under it but rather in the list to the right. It is enabled and it's version 10.3.181.23.

Um no adblock software but my browser blocks pop ups. I don't know what blocks it,it just... does.

    It was on medium before.

I have Bitdefender Internet Security 2011, however I had this flash problem even before I got this anti-virus program, so I doubt that's what is wrong.

I appreciate you trying to help

Hi, thanks, that is one way to know you have the 64bit OS:-) Your Flash files are all correct and the Shockwave Flash Object as well.

Now Win7 had a Service Pack1 update that came out 6 weeks or so ago and had a new feature called ActiveX Filtering.

You may want to check that.

    To turn on ActiveX Filtering
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, point to Safety, and then click ActiveX Filtering.

To turn off ActiveX Filtering on a specific website
In Internet Explorer, click the Filter button in the Address bar, and then click Turn off ActiveX Filtering.

To turn off ActiveX Filtering on all websites
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, point to Safety, and then click ActiveX Filtering.

This is the Microsoft link for it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/features/activex-filtering

This website may explain it better: http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-or-enable-turn-off-or-on-activex-filtering-in-ie9/
Even tho this is for IE9, it's the same thing. When Microsoft released IE9, this feature that came with the SP1 for Win7 was in that also.

Let me know if that helps.

    Thanks,
