Question

@#$%#@$%! Flash Player for IE...

Sorry for the flaming, seems to be a common theme today.   Why is this so difficult???

I have uninstalled, rebooted, installed, without internet plugged in, standing on head a dozen times to no avail. I have gone into IE's security/custom level settings and enabled/disabled/prompted the appropriate items.

In fact, after I try to install from Adobe's http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ I get a message saying "Adobe Flash Player ActiveX Setup - The version of adobe FP  you are trying to install is not the latest version. go to adobe.com/go/getflashplayer." Didn't I just do that?

Also, when I try to do a version test for FP in IE (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html) I don't get a fully loaded page.

Do I have a virus? Where are the folders that show whether I have FP for IE? Can I take FP our of FireF and put them in the IE folder? Where are these folders?

Of course I can't open up Cap4 unless IE has FP. Is there a way to tell CP4 to open FireF (which does have FP) instead?

I am again desperate to get this fixed so I can continue with work.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith

Hi, You didn't say if your operating system is a 64bit, but if it is you need to use the 32bit browser for FP. If you are using a 32bit operating system your Flash Files would be here: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. Right click on Flash

and you should see IE Flash files and FF(Firefox). However you need to right click on the FF files, NPSWF32.dll and the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.

Also Using IE, check manage add ons (all add ons) and make sure Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx is listed and Enabled.

Using FF, find the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled.

10.0.45.2 is the latest version. Now evidently Cap5 is installing the beta 10.1 version. I don't know about Cap4, but your Flash files will indicate which vs.

When you post back, post back your operating system info, along with the vs of IE/FF. That is helpful.

    Thanks,

    Hi eidnolb,

Thanks for fielding our FP angst today.

Hi, You didn't say if your operating system is a 64bit, but if it is you need to use the 32bit browser for FP.

    My os is 32bit

If you are using a 32bit operating system your Flash Files would be here: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash.

    Found it

Right click on Flash and you should see IE Flash files and FF(Firefox).

Not sure why I right click on Flash, If I open the Flash folder in System32\Macromed I see the files you mention next.

However you need to right click on the FF files, NPSWF32.dll and the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.

    NPSWF32.dll =10.0.45.2

    NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe = 10.0.45.2

Also Using IE, check manage add ons (all add ons) and make sure Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx is listed and Enabled.

I recently upgraded to IE 8 thinking that might solve the problem.

I do not see any of the files you mention in IE add ons.

    How do I get them?

Using FF, find the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled.

I think I got it. Shockwave Flash 10.0.45.2 and it's enabled

10.0.45.2 is the latest version. Now evidently Cap5 is installing the beta 10.1 version. I don't know about Cap4, but your Flash files will indicate which vs.

Not sure what this means. I have the original CD for Cap4 and it has the FP 10 ActX.exe vs. 10.0.12.36 & FP 10 Plugin.exe vs. 10.0.12.36.

Hope this info helps! What's the next step?

    Big Thanks!!!

Hi Keith, thanks for the information. I am not familiar with Cap at all, just Flash Player:-) The Flash folder contains the Flash files for IE and FF, plus an Uninstall and Install.log for each browser. The Flash files for FF are correct. Were there no Flash files listed for IE?

The Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control...Flash10e.ocx(this indicates vs 10.0.45.2) is Installed when the Flash Player Installer for IE is run. Why it isn't there I don't know yet.

The SWF for FF is the correct version.

Since you know more about Cap4 than I do, does Cap4 come already Installed with Flash Player or do you Install Flash Player independently?

You said the CD for Cap4 has FP vs 10.0.12.36 for IE and the same vs for FF. That version is 4 versions old.

Perhaps you can fill me in on how Cap4 works related to Flash Player.

    Thanks,

    Try the below:

    Uninstall Flash Player.

Instead of starting IE the regular way, start it with Right-Click, Run As Administrator, even if you are logged in as an Administrator and then install Flash.

If it does not work, download Flash Player using this link - http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi , save it on your desktop, right click, run as administrator.

Let me know if it works.

    Hi Ksriv,

    I tried this option

If it does not work, download Flash Player using this link - http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi , save it on your desktop, right click, run as administrator.

but get the same message as before "The version of Adobe FP ActiveX that you are trying to install is not the most current version. Pease visit www.adove.com/go/getflashplayer for latest version." After I click finish, I try to open Cap4 and I get the same message about not installed or old version, you will be redirected...

    Any other thoughts?
