First things first, I'd just reboot the machine.  This ensures that any copies of the Flash Player process resident in memory before the upgrade actually exit and start using the new copy on the system.  People didn't like that we forced you to exit the browser to perform an upgrade, but the trade-off is that you can now have tabs running with multiple versions until you actually exit the browser.

If that doesn't work, it's possible that the JavaScript that detects Flash Player on those sites is wrong.  What happens when you right-click the Flash content in that situation?  What's the version number that gets displayed in the context menu?  I bet it's 24.0.0.186.

I can only suggest downloading and installing again:

Adobe Flash Player Install for all versions

Or try updating from within the browser e.g. in Firefox go to AddOns
