Question

Flash player has new problem old fixes don't work

A little disappointed that support is not recognizing that current "fixes" are not resolving the current "couldn't load plugins", Flash crashes.  I tried all the tips from Adobe and from Google Chrome...to enable/unblock/update/pepper, etc. and none of these are resolutions to the problem.  And I see a great many new posts reflecting the same problem.  I uninstalled/reinstalled my Chrome browser...and the problem seems to be gone...for now...but from reading these posts I am rather expecting another crash.  I've been using Chrome and Flash on same computer for 20 months with no probs...this is a new issue and should be addressed as such.

Please try the following:

  1. Launch Chrome
  2. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://plugins and press Enter
  3. Look for Adobe Flash Player entry and make note of the Location path
    • If the Location path doesn't display, click +Details in the top right to show plugin details
  4. Close Chrome
  5. Using Windows Explorer or Finder go to <PATH>/PepperFlash directory obtained in step 3.  EG:
  6. Delete the version number directory (e.g. 23.0.0.166)
  7. Launch Chrome
  8. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://components and press Enter
  9. Locate the Adobe Flash Player entry
  10. Click the corresponding Check for updates button
  11. Flash Player plugin should automatically download and install
  12. View Flash content

Please post back here if this worked.  Also post the operating system, including version.

Thank you.

This fix does NOT work:  I am running the most updated version of Google Chrome in my browser, on a most updated Windows 10 OS, on a HP Pavilion 20.310 PC.  The location path in chrome:plugins of the Adobe flash player is: C:\Users\linda\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperFlash\2.0.0.185\pepflashplayer.dll.

Windows 10 has a File Explorer, wherein you search...and CANNOT locate the above file.  Instead the path breaks at linda, into 3 new paths: App Data which does not contain any of the remaining leads.  Or  Local, which goes directly into User Data.  Which goes into a Windows file, which shows as empty.  When you press SEARCH on File Explorer for the C:\Users\linda\AppData\ etc... you get  "There are no results".

I'm stymied.

Please don't post the same problem to multiple topics. It's very confusing and results in duplicate/triplicate work for those trying to assist you or results in multiple people assisting you.

The AppData\Local has to exist on your system in your user's directory.  If it doesn't there are issues with your system beyond the scope of these forums.

Launch File Explorer and paste C:\Users\linda\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperFlash into the address field.  Does File Explorer jump to that directory?
