Flash player installation fails on Mac?

I have an iMac OS X version 10.6.4 not even 2 months old yet and I goofed today and accidentally uninstalled my flash player.

Now when I go to install it again from the adobe site it downloads but when it gets to the installation process it makes it to 5% and says "this installation failed". I've been working at this all day to try and repair and i've searched everything I could think of looking for someone whose had this happen but I can't find any solutions.  I also have safari and firefox, I've tried the download on both. Any suggestions?

On Windows the FP installer creates a log file (FlashInstall.log) in the install folder; does it also on a Mac?  Can you find any info in there why the installation failed?

No I can't really find any kind of information which is the most frustrating part of it all.  Because it starts to install and then it just stops and says that it failed. I can't understand why it won't just install.

Sorry, I do not really know anything about Macs.  Have you tried the Mac installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html - download it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.
