Question

Flash Player Installed -Status Unknown-

I have installed flash player and I have tested it using the website, it says it is installed, but when i go into my Download Program files, (Internet Tools). The program is listed as a string of numbers, status unknown.

Eg: {8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C}

Obviously, this isn't correct and previous to the upgrade it was listed as Flash Active X Object.

How do i go about correcting this, I have tried the uninstaller, deletting the registry key, all sorts but nothing seems to work...

Any help would be appreciated.

    I forgot, I also had a notice that there were updates for Windows which I did yesterday also. So it could have something to do with that. I am now waiting for a reply from MS support on this issue.

    Hi, the best advice I can offer is to try a system restore. Try to go back to a point prior to the updates and tweaking which you have described. That way you can install the updates, then reinstall ZA and then try the Adobe Flash reinstall....?

    To be honest with you, I have totally given up on Windows XP/Vista/7..... and switched to OS X (Mac), why have mince beef when you can have steak...?

    Best of luck

    I have this frustrating problem which I suspect in my case could be linked with the Windows Installer. Checking in System config, Windows Installer is stopped and I am also unable to keep it in start mode in services and applications, it just keeps going back to start. I am unable to play certain games in MSN due to Critical Error 3 appearing every time. I have tried to restore but non of my restore points will work. I have reinstalled Windows Installer and Flash Player several times to no avail and  keep getting this {8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C} programme back in my 'view objects' file when downloading Flash Player and the Critical Error 3 appearing when loading games.

    When you install Flash Player (9.0.115.0) you should see the following keys in the C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

    {8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C}

    &

    {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}

    {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} is the ActiveX control version 9.0.115.0 for Flash Player.

    Do you see both of these keys?

    I would like to resurrect this issue. I have searched the web and these forums and tried many of the suggestions, all to no avail. Machines involved are both Windows XP sp3, updates current, Internet Explorer 6.
    On the working computer, in the the "Downloaded Program Files" folder (IE6, Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Objects) I find a ActiveX object titled "Shockwave Flash Object". Its properties "General" tab shows Type=ActiveX, Creation Date=02/02/09, Last Accessed=03/06/09, Total Size=6,860,800 bytes, ID={D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}, Status=Installed, Codebase=http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab. The "Dependancy" tab shows a list of 5 files and their associated file size. The first 4 are references to the file FP_AX_CAB_INSTALLER.EXE but each have a different file size. The 5th file is SWFLASH.INF. On the "Version" tab I see version=10.0.22.87 and description=Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22.
    On the failing computer, in the the "Downloaded Program Files" folder (IE6, Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Objects) I find a ActiveX object titled "{8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C}". Its properties "General" tab shows Type=ActiveX, Creation Date=None, Last Accessed=None, Total Size=4,096 bytes, ID={8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C} Status=Unknown, Codebase=http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/polarbear/ultrashim.cab. The "Dependancy" tab shows a list of 1 file and its associated file size. The reference is to the file ERMA.INF. On the "Version" tab I see version=1.0.0.29 and all other fields show <unknown>.
    I have compared the install log files (from %SystemRoot%\system32\macromed\flash folder) and can't see any differences. While I can't point to an example of what problem this is causing, the property sheet values are enough to convince me that something is wrong. Please advise.

    I would like to add that on the failing computer the "Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX" item appears in the Add/Remove Programs of Control Panel just as they do on the working computer.
