Flash player installer downloaded from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ will not run
I use a Windows XP PC with x86 SSE instruction set only processor. The installation executable flashplayer20_fa_install.exe fails, producing an error message box stating : -
The exception Illegal Instruction
An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction.
(0xc000001d) occurred in the application at location 0x0040599b.
Click on OK to terminate the program
flashplayer20_fa_install.exe is clearly not compatible with SSE only x86 processors.
Adobe obviously does not want people to view Flash content and by preventing access to the full 18.3MB installer is effectively helping to kill Flash. The full installation executable install_flash_player_20_plugin.exe, soon to be unavailable, runs properly on a SSE only processor.
Does Adobe deliberately seek to prevent people from viewing Flash? That is what it is achieving. Customers are paying Adobe for Flash authoring tools and Adobe is undermining those customers by preventing people like me from installing Flash player. Is this stupid or is this stupid? Adobe is cutting its own throat. Furthermore, it is preventing people from maintaining an up-to-date secure version of Flash Player.
By preventing users from using the full Flash installer, it is clear that Adobe has completely lost contact with reality. The Adobe company's policies are utterly bizarre.
I soon won't be able to see the Flash content of advertisers. Perhaps you are trying to do me a favour in some strange twisted way.
