Question

Flash Player Installer hangs at 95%

I am trying to install Flash Player 10.3.181.22 on an Intel Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.7 with the latest Security Update. I have downloaded the dmg file (more than once) successfully. Opening the dmg and starting the Installer gives a running instance of the Adobe Flash Player 10.3 Installer. The blue progress bar proceeds at a reasonable pace until it reaches 95%, where it stalls. Activity Monitor shows "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager" taking 5-7% of CPU, and an "installer" process taking a varying amount as high as 80%.

I have tried this a couple of times, once for about 5 hours, and nothing changes. If you force quit the "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager", and try to re-start it, it fails immediately. If you use the Adobe Flash Uninstaller, you need to restart to be able to use the Installer again, but you get the same results.

I have seen no one else with this problem posting either here or on MacInTouch; anyone have any clues?

Hi what worked for me was to download the beta version from this link:

Download Adobe Flash Player 17 Beta for Desktops - Adobe Labs

then follow Robert's steps as above:

    Steps:

    1. Reboot computer (This is in case you already tried to install Flash and

you want to avoid a failure.)

    2. Download latest Adobe Flash 10 version.

    3. Mount Flash Player (click on flash drive icon)

    4. Right click on flash file (or double finger tap)

    5. Choose 'Show Package Contents'.

    6. Open 'Contents' then 'Resources'

    7. Run file 'Adobe Flash Player.Pkg'

    8. Reboot computer so it seats into Mozilla, etc

    9. Enjoy...

downloading the non-beta version always gave me the incomplete package, and always hung when trying to download the rest of it.

This is a thread from 2011.  The problems that people are experiencing currently are unrelated to the original issue.  I'm going to lock it.

If you're experiencing a problem now, downloading the offline installer will usually get you around the problem.  We're in the process of rolling out new installer technology, but the problematic legacy system seems to be especially broken this week.  We're investigating.

    Please use the offline installer:

If you're still stuck, please start a new thread so that we can offer you personalized advice.

Tried installing Flash everyday imaginable on my Mac’s and nothing helped. Adobe has to stop trying to install the browser extension the way it has and provide a link to the full installer. It is the only way I find that it works rather than first through Safari. Units the previous version first.

Find the full uninstaller here > Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS

Find the full Installer Here > http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx.dmg

    Thank you!

For those who are still experiencing this issue, using the full installer as Hydromac suggested worked for me on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) running OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. Remember to uninstall whichever older version of Flash Player you currently have and restart your Mac first!

I am unable to find the proper link. The above link which Hydromac put there gives out a 404 error.

Can someone please provide me a proper working link ?

    Thank you !

Judging by this thread, this problem has existed for over 3 years and hasn't been properly resolved. Shame on you, Adobe.

A simple link to the offline installer would resolve all these cockamamie issues of the brain-dead stub installer needing to download anything further.  For anyone who's found this page through a Google or other search, here is that link (as of the time of writing):

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

It's 2014. A 16mb download isn't going to scare anyone nowadays. Make the full installer available on http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ !

I have OS X 10.7.5 on my Macbook Pro, and when I try to download the latest FLASH PLAYER it hangs up at 97 percent every time, so I am having basically the same problem.

Okay, I used the fix at the link given by SMayer97, above, and it worked!  Thank you VERY much!

    Hi.

This has been happening with the last 3 or 4 releases of Flash Player for the Mac.

It doesn't happen to all installs only some - my iMac always has this problem but my MacBook Pro does not.

The simple way to get around this problem is to:

    1. Download the Flash Player uninstaller

    2. Run the uninstaller.

    3. Restart your Mac.

    4. Download and run the installer for the latest version of Flash Player.

Note: There may be a slight pause around the 95% mark but be patient it should install correctly

    5. You are done.

Adobe needs to get on top of this because it has been happening for some time now.

They know about it because I got the above instructions from them.

    Hope this helps.

This seems to be a recurring problem for a LOT of users. This just started to happen to me starting with v11.x (can't remember the exact sub-version). I put it off until v12.x came out and have been forced to resolve this because Safari blocks v11.

    I followed the instructions here:

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1267823

After trying everything else, this worked for me. It seems that the part that was key was the part about the Flash Player Install Manager folder. Once I got rid of that, it worked.

    OS X.6.8

Not sure how this would solve the problem for users on Windows that have the same problem (above and here http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1020343-Adobe-Flash-Player-stops-at-95   as examples).

The steps in Robert's solution worked for me.

Thanks to Robert and to Chris.

I am having the same problem trying to install latest Flash Player on Intel Mac running OS 10.6.8.  Installer hangs at 95% -- forever.  Force quit and retry yields immediate Installation Failed message.  Have disabled McAfee Antivirus and retried.  Retried in Safe Mode with no applications running.  Have downloaded the installer from every Adobe link.  Does not work.

I'm still trying to track this one down.  It's been problematic since we haven't been able to reproduce it internally.  Out of curiosity, does it make any difference if you try the following?

    1. Mount the Flash Player dmg

    2. Open Terminal (Applications/Utilities)

    3. Execute the following command:  sudo /Volumes/Flash\ Player/Install\ Adobe\ Flash\ Player.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ Flash\ Player\ Install\ Manager

    4. Run through the installer

    Thanks,

    Chris

I'm experiencing an identical problem (installation hangs showing 95% complete) trying to install Flash player (10.3) w Firefox as my primary browser, no anti-virus programs active. Otherwise, running MacOS 10.6.8 on a 2.66 Dual Core Intel machine. Very reproducible.

    Any updates on this problem?

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for the heads up!  Others, please let me know if this helps for you.  I'll double back with the installer team to see why this would make a difference.

I am experiencing the exact same thing.  I have tried all that you have tried...have you discovered a solution?

    Hi,

I haven't personally seen this one before.  If I had to guess, I'd try the following:

    1. Run our Flash Player uninstaller

    2. Open Disk Utility and Verify/Repair disk permissions

    3. Reboot

    4. Run through the troubleshooting steps 4 through 7 on this page.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Chris,

I did what you requested, and the outcome is the same. I even re-installed Safari. The installer still hangs at 95%.

Thanks for trying that Mac.  The next step is to take a look at your installer log.  Could you post the content of the following file?

    ~/Library/Logs/FlashPlayerInstallManager.log
