Flash player not detecting webcams on a website.

Question

We have an instructor working in a lab with webcams trying to access this site: - http://avenue.umn.edu/ The site detects a webcam if a webcam is plugged with a USB connection. However the lab she is working in uses an ASL program called Communa and the webcams work via network cable and Communa saves interpreting videos to the network. We've installed the latest Flash 11.5.502.146 version on all the workstations.

I've gone on the UMN Avenue website and right clicked the Flash security settings & global security settings to allow Camera & Mic to detect the camera. My question will the Flash player detect a webcam via a network cable or will it only work with webcam attached to a usb cable? I'm guessing it probably won't work.

It's ultimately about what Windows exposes to Flash.

My guess is that your IP-based cameras are not recognized as attached Camera devices in Windows, and would therefore not be exposed to Flash Player.

Some details, like the make and model of your camera and your operating system would be helpful in generating a more specific answer.
