Flash Player not recognized on Mac

I have downloaded and installed the latest update for Flash Player 11.8

But the applications that use it give an error message that I need to install the latest version

On the installation help page, the box that is supposed to show my version is blank like I don't have Flash Player installed.

Message was edited by: websted   plug-ins were not enabled in Safari preferences. When I checked enable plug-ins problem was resolved.
