Flash Player not working in IE8

Ok, I've googled this and found many people with the same problem. I've tried all the "fixes" and nothing works. I deleted IE8, uninstalled the flash player, restarted computer, reinstalled the flash player, restarted cpu, reinstalled IE8, downloaded & installed the latest version of java, checked to make sure java scripts & applets were enabled (they were), deleted internet temp files. This all started after upgrading to IE8. I'm running XP, btw.

Hi Jon,  I looked over the IE add ons and don't see anything that needs removed at the moment. If you need to use the Adobe Reader and need the add on, that would be no problem. Most of the time any Microsoft add ons or Adobe would be

ok to have enabled, notwithstanding Messenger when Uninstalling/Installing Flash Player.

I don't think you need to do anything tonight. I want to check out that Virus Protect you mentioned that came down with

IE8.  It is never good to have two anti-virus programs, because they fight for control. Perhaps that is the culprit. I have

never even heard of Virus Protect.

I would check out different anti-virus programs before your trial is near to expire so you won't be forced into buying Norton.

I'll let you know what I find out. Oh, and I'm not so sure Google is gone either:-) I know you can't see it, but I'm checking

    on that too.

    That is it for tonight,

    thanks,

    eidnolb

Hi Jon, I have done some research on the VP and if you still have the Norton trial version, I would disconnect from the internet and run a full scan. Also you can go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and do the online scan only.

However be sure to disable ALL of Norton first, to avoid conflicts.

Let me know if you decide to allow the trial version of Norton to expire and go with another program. The only way to rid

your system of Norton or any other Anti-Virus program before installing another is with the Norton Removal Tool.

In fact I would suggest if you don't renew the trial version, to use the Removal Tool prior to using the Malwarebytes scan.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Please help eugene rivera with regards to his concern. When he clicks on the agree and install now button while downloading adobe flash player, the internet explorer freezes and stucks up. Probably a security setting on his internet explorer browser.

Flash Player not loading with IE8.  Flash Player Install page freezes and message appears that install being blocked by protective software.  I have both Spotzilla and Nortons 360.

Hi windmill3, Please start your own thread and pick any subject line you prefer. This thread is already taken:-)

You will be able to get help that way. No one knows you are even on the forum. Too confusing to have more than one

         person on a thread.

    Thanks,

Hi Jon, thanks for starting your thread. Since you have Installed and Uninstalled, let's take a look at your Flash Player

    files.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash   Right click on the Flash folder and post back all files listed with the

    version numbers.

Then go to your Manage Add ons (All add-ons) and look for Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx (vs 10.0.45.2 the latest version) to make sure it is enabled. If that is not listed, please post back what is.

What Service Pack do you have with XP?

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

    I see:

    Flash10e.ocx

    flashplayer.xpt

    FlashUtil10e

    install

    NPSWF32.dll

    NPSWF32_FlashUtil

    uninstall_activex

    uninstall_plugin

How do I get to:  Manage add ons?

    Service pack3

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks Jon, Your IE Flash files are correct. Since the FF files don't list the version numbers, and I didn't know you were using the FF browser or I would have had you do this before. Go back and right click on both NPSWF files and click on Properties to get the version numbers. I just want to make sure they are the correct versions also.

On the Manage add-ons, look for "View and Manage your Internet Explorer Add-ons" or Tools and find "All add-ons"

Also in FF, find under plug-ins, the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 should be there and make sure it is enabled. If there is more that

one listing of the SWF and it is an older version, that needs removed/deleted.

Ok on the SP3. Just checking since Microsoft has a deadline out that support will be not given if XP users do not have SP3.

    Thanks,

Are Shockwave AND Air installed & updated to the latest versions?

Having Flash Player alone is often not everything you need.
