I'm running the latest flashplayer on XP pro and have noticed that some video files which previously loaded in flash player are now loading in Windows media player. It seems to be completely random and I can't find a way of forcing the downlaod to open in Adobe FP. Has any one else experienced this or can suggest a workaround as media player takes ages to load and I need to find a fix as this is slowing me down.

You might be able to fix the problem by opening Windows Media Player and going to Tools > File Types. For the different kinds of music and video type you can check which ones you want to be played by WMP and uncheck the ones you don't want to be played by WMP, click Apply and close the menu.

Hello jd, Would you be so kind, and pray tell why you brought a thread up that is 3 years old? The thread topic says

"Flash player problem", yet your response is all about Windows Media Player. I would certainly hope that the one that

started this thread 3 years ago found their solution long before this.

    Just wondering,

    eidnolb

P.S. Oh, I just noticed that the one starting the thread didn't have a Flash Player problem, he had a WMP problem,

    my mistake.

But I still think a 3 year old thread should have stayed buried.

    blondie eidnolb,

Sorry for my mistake. I have been working on my Adobe Flash CS3 problem

for the last 3 days and my brain feels frazzled. When I saw the Windows

Media Player problem, I thought it was something I could help someone

else with and didn't look at the date until after I sent my reply.

Besides, even though the question was Flash Player Problem, the person

had stated that the Windows Media Player was playing videos. I sure hope

that person received a solution 3 years ago.

    jd

Hi Linzae3. I think I may have found the answer for you. Let me know if this works. Is there someone that I can resolve my problem with Media player ?

When you install QuickTime, or change your QuickTime settings, it may take over handling of Flash files. However, this can be fixed quite easily. To stop QuickTime from handling Flash files, do the following:

    1. Close Mozilla (or Firefox)
    2. Open the QuickTime Control Panel
    3. Select "Browser Plug-in" from the dropdown menu
    4. Open up the MIME Settings dialog
    5. Make sure "Flash file" is not selected. This is listed under Miscellaneous.
    6. Click OK, and close the QuickTime Control Panel
    7. Remove the file pluginreg.dat from your Profile Folder. This file will be recreated next time you start Mozilla
    8. Remove npqt*.dll from your Mozilla or Firefox plugins folder. These files are not required, and can cause problems when QuickTime is upgraded

After doing this, you may need to reinstall Flash Player. These instructions should be the same for both Windows and MacOS X, with the exception of the last step.

Hi Linzae3 - I wish. I've spent most of the day looking at all the settings to see what might have changed but found nothing. I've restored the registry to a date when FP was working OK but I'm still in the situation that some video files will open in FP but others default to a similar window, but with the Windows media control bar at the bottom. Even though the properties of the files seem to be the same. The problem is that the files take for ever to download and run in Media player. Very frustrating.

I am having a very similar problem. I installed the Adobe Creative Suite 3 two weeks ago and Flash Player was working fine with it. Then all of a sudden Quicktime Player was randomly overwriting .swf files online. I tried to change the settings for Quicktime, didnt work. I tried to uninstall and then reinstall flash player, didnt work. Now I can't even get flash player to install at all. It says it's installed fine but then there is no application anywhere on my computer. Have you found a solution to your problem?
