Flash Player problems

I tried looking through threads for answers to my problem before creating a new post, but was unable to find someone with the same specifics.

I'm running Vista, Firefox and AVG 2011.

The problem I'm having is, after downloading the new Flash Player, Version 10.1 from this link: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html, Any flash object says I'm missing a plug-in. I've tried Uninstalling, Installing V9, Uninstalling, Installing V10.1 with restarts inbetween and AVG turned off, but no luck. The Flash Player Check page registers nothing, says I need to download the plug-in. When I try to, it will download V10.1.102 but fails to install. The manual install just has me download and Install the same file I used to install V10.1 (10.1.102.64)

I'm thoroughly confused here and any help and direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed. Any NPSWF files you will need to right click on and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.

    If you have Flash Player Installed in IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and look under "Show"(light text) in All addons for Shockwave Flash OBJECT(it must say this). Is it Installed, Enabled and vs 10.1.102.64?

    Using FF, look for Shockwave Flash in plugins, is it listed and Enabled?

    When you had the Virus, which Anti-Virus program removed it? Was it the "antivirus8/AV8"?

    What version of IE and FF?

    Eidnolb,

    Looking at the system32 folder, I don't have a Macromed folder. I'm assuming that's a problem. Heh.

    Flash isn't in the Firefox plug-in menu either.

    I'm not sure which virus it was, but I don't thin AVG found it. If I remember right, I had to pinpoint it and delete it. I haven't been really happy with AVG, but I don't really have much use for anti-virus anyhow. I don't do much email that doesn't go through Hotmail and I don't often go to any sites I don't know already. Is there a better freeware that you would suggest?

    I'm using FF 3.6.9.

    Hi, Perhaps your OS is a 64bit? If so , then replace "System32" with SysWOW64 and try that.

    I would suggest going to www.malwarebytes.org and downloading and SAVE the free version to your Desktop. Click on Update, allow it to Update the definitions. Then run a scan. Close all browser windows when doing this.

    Now before you use MBAM, Disable AVG so there will be no conflict. We want to be sure there are no viruses on your system.

    Resident Shield

    Open AVG User Interface. (Right Click to Open)
    Double-click on the Resident Shield.
    Un-tick the option Resident Shield active.

    Save the changes.

    LinkScanner

    Open AVG User Interface.(Right Click to Open)
    Double-click on the LinkScanner.
    Un-tick the option Enable AVG Search-Shield and Enable Active Surf-Shield.

    I forgot to add that yes, I've had virii in the past, but it has been awhile and Flash Player has worked since then. I had troubles playing some FP based games but others would work. Now none will work. When I tried them using FP v9, they'll load about halfway and then just quit and do nothing.
