I just downloaded a new Flash player today and I still see the banner at the top asking me to allow the page to open. What's the most recent version? Will that stop this?

Well, it's not actually Flash prompting you. It's the browser prompting you to allow Flash.

I poked around on the Firefox support site and in the menus and I spent some time looking around on Google, but I didn't find a way to comprehensively disable this.

As far as I can tell, Flash Player is *supposed* to be exempted from this feature per: Why do I have to click to activate plugins? | Firefox Help

That said, if you're getting prompted for it constantly, either Firefox has decided to include Flash in it's plugin blocking strategy, or it's a bug in Firefox. You can click "Allow and Remember" to authorize Flash content on a per-site basis, but I can appreciate how that could quickly get annoying.

I didn't see an easy way to disable this feature in Firefox, although Firefox support might have a recommendation.

The easiest approach may be to just switch browsers. As an example, Google Chrome includes Flash Player as a built-in component of the browser without this kind of obtrusive plugin blocking UI.
