Flash Player receiving errors Not Installing on Vista Home Premium SP1

I start with this message Adobe Flash Player Update You seem to be missing the correct version of Flash and then I click on the link Get Flash:

ON the Adobe download page I deselect McAfee Security scan because it is already loaded and I do not need it because I have Norton 360 installed. It did not start automatically so I clicked on link that says"If it does not start then click here to download" it then processes and provides me back a message "Adobe Flash Player Active X Setup:Completed" and I then click on the Close Prompt.

Ithen Go back and try to open the Clip on my home Page and I get the same original message. I then checked to see if Flash Player was actually installed as a program on my computer. It has it listed as one of the programs installed with the correct date of installation but it has a blank in the size of space that the program takes up. THis indicates to me that the program was actually not installed.

Then I follow some of the other forumn responders suggestions;

Inlcding the suggestion to click on the Adobe Flash Player links to uninstall and install and save them to you computer instead of running them directly. After saving them I run the saved uninstall program. The uninstall program displays a message that the Flah has successfully uninstalled. I validate that the program no longer exists on my computer and it indicates it does not. I then run the saved Install program(program description Adobe Flash Player Active X Installer). It then processes and provides back a message "Adobe Flash Player Active X Setup:Completed and I then click on the close Prompt. Again I check to see if Flash Player was actually installed as a program on my computer. It has it listed as one of the programs installed with the correct date of installation but it has a blank in the size of space that the program takes up. This again indicates to me that the program was not actually installed.

I also tried running the same above saved install and uninstall Flah Player programs after closing my browsers and receieved the following message(also attached) :

Files\ContentJES\AX8ZYVWJ\install_flash_player_ax[1].exe

"The Remote Procedure Call Failed"

I have tried to research using forumn suggestions and trying not to bother anybody and I keep trying to uninstall and install numerous times and continue to recieve the same errors.

I also have Adobe Reader 8.1.3, Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5

Any help is sincerely appreciated

My problem is as follows:  I have the installer downloaded and thought flashplayer was going to install then immediately after the installer was installed.  I clicked for it to begin, nothing.  It then said to click "here" if that happened...nothing...so now what??

In IE7, IE8, or IE9, go to Tools/InternetOptions/Advanced. Near the bottom of that screen is a reset button. I pressed the reset button and restarted IE9. Although I had to reconfigure the way I like the screen set up and re-enable some addons, Flash and Shockwave (and Java) are now working and installing fine.

    Solipso,

First thank you for your response. I am at my wits end. That is the uninstaller that I tried to use and it does every time uninstall the program correctly. The problem is with the install. It states that the install was completed and even lists it under one of the programs on my computer, however it takes up zero disk space. This indicates to me that it did not complete the install. I am using Internet Explorer 7 256 bit and Vista is 32 Bit.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Rockfishhunter, sorry I couldn't help.

    1. I am quite amateurish in these matters. Likely as not, you know more about Flash Player than I do. But your trouble seems identical to the one I was having. I installed Flash Player, it appeared on my list of installed programs (I think it did show disk space being used), and I kept getting error messages telling me Flash Player was not installed even though I had just installed it.

    2. I believe Flash Player is not a critical need for browsing the Internet. Perhaps other readers would like to comment about how important Flash Player is. Since I too had trouble installing it and getting it to work with Internet Explorer 8.0 64-bit Edition, I uninstalled it and have not been using it at all. Many Web pages use it, even for big companies like Samsung and Bank of America. My impression is that Flash Player merely makes some Web pages a bit more colorful and exciting. You never really NEED it. If it supported 64 bits, I would use it. But I have not been hurting because I have not been using it.

    3. Your mention of "Internet Explorer 7 256 bit" is something I have never heard of. I think you may be mistaken, or maybe I'm just ignorant and there is such a thing and you have a special need for it. But if you are using Vista 32-bit Edition, I would expect you to be using Internet Explorer 8.0 32-bit Edition.

    4. If I were you and I did NOT have any special need for Internet Explorer 7, I would uninstall Flash Player and then install Internet Explorer 8.0 32-bit Edition. Then I would go to Adobe Flash Player main page and download and install Flash Player. If you disable your virus protection and close other programs during these procedures, I personally don't know of any reason why Flash Player would not work. (I think you can use Windows Update to download and install Internet Explorer 8.0 32-bits. Just check for Updates. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, the newer Internet Explorer 8.0 should appear as an available update. Windows Update is in Control Panel, or you can click Start and search for Windows Update.)

I had similar trouble after I installed the Flash Player while running Internet Explorer 8 64-bit Edition. Eventually I learned that the Flash Player does not support 64-bit browsers. So I tried to uninstall it, but I could not completely do so by using the Control Panel in Windows 7. I had to use the special Adobe Flash Player uninstall program that is found on the following Web page:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

    1. Did you try this special uninstaller? (I think you did, but I'm not sure.)

    2. If I were in your position, assuming you have tried the special uninstaller, I would download and install (or reinstall) the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player (version 10.1 ?). Then I would use the special uninstall program.

    3. Also like you, I have uninstalled a program only to see it remain on my list of programs in Control Panel. Sometimes it disappears from the list after I reboot. Other times I have uninstalled it using Perfect Uninstaller. (I paid for Perfect Uninstaller, but you MIGHT be able to use a free trial version, if you think you should.)

    4. Are you using Vista Home Premium 64 bits? If you are, then I guess you're using 64-bit Internet Explorer, which means Flash Player does not support it. (Adobe's "solution" is that you go to Microsoft and learn how to install Internet Explorer 8.0 32-bit Edition. My solution is to forget about Adobe Flash Player. I would use it if it supported 64 bits, but it's not critical.) To see if you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit browser, click the question mark near the upper right corner of a Web page and click "About Internet Explorer."  For me it specifically states 64-bit Edition. If it says neither, maybe that means you are using 32 bits, which means Flash Player should work for you.

If this was not helpful, I apologize.
