Flash Player reports need to update error

I have followed the instructions provided to troubleshoot updating FP to the latest version & have verified that the install was successful. However, several websites still invite me to install the latest version. I'm running Vista HP & IE8. I have submitted a Support request, but then decided to try here for a quicker response.

On IE8, Tools | Manage Add-ons, make sure that Shockwave Flash Object is enabled. You may need to show "All add-ons".

Check http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/that Flash Player is working correctly.

All appears to be working fine when I go to the Adobe test page.  It seems for some reason something about my installation is making sites think I have a lower version.

Can you check folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash - if you have more than one OCX file, i.e. older than Flash10b.ocx ? If so

I am seeing this problem also and would love to know the solution.

I have verified my flash version as "WIN 10,0,22,87", running on XP Pro and IE8.  I am getting the "Flash needs to be version 9 or above" from a number of reputable sites, although Adobe doesn't have problems recognizing it ;-)

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
