flash player says its installed, but isn't

I have installed flash player, get to box saying it was sucessful but it doesn't work..It doesn't show up under my programs, but does show up in my uninstall group.  I have tried many different ways suggested by the help page.  Have Norton anti virus, even disababled it to try again.  can watch utube videos, but not cnn or espn.  Any ideas?

    What is your operating system, version & edition?

    What is your web browser?

    Can you see the Flash animation and version information at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

    Nothing shows up.  But I did follow another thread and I went to Manage Add-ons, enabled it so it worked.  But it slows everything down, I get a message saying Internet Explorer is not responding, it shuts down the page and then  starts up again.  I have worked on this for days!  Seems the easiest thing to do is enable and disable all the time.  Thanks

    I'd suggest doing a clean install so that your flash cache will be cleared and you can verify that you have only the latest components.
