Flash Player settings panel settings won't save - can't make Flash save content & videos won't play

Hi everybody,

BBC News videos haven't been playing on my MacOS X 10.6.4 computer in Safari for a long time; I have the latest version of Flash and am now using Safari 5.0.1; yesterday when I read some tips online about troubleshooting Flash, I realized it might help to have Flash Player set to save content - turned out it was set to save no content on my computer. However, when I pulled up the Flash Settings page and tried to change the Global Storage Settings, the panel wouldn't register any changes: I moved the slider arrow to "10MB" from "None" but then when I opened the panel again, it was back at "None"; this has happened every time I've tried. In addition, when I try to "check" the checkboxes below it, to allow third-party content to store data, and to store common Flash components, the boxes won't change to a "checked" state and when I click on the second one, to store common components, it brings up a dialog box asking to confirm that I'm changing it to _not_ store anything, even though the box is already unchecked and doesn't change even after I confirm the dialog box then try to check it "again."

Anyway I just uninstalled Flash then reinstalled it, and it's exactly the same as before. No settings register. I have opened Firefox 3.6.8 in addition to Safari 5.0.1 and it's the same deal with the settings panel in Firefox.

Anybody have any ideas for how to fix this problem? It's pretty rough not being able to see those fun BBC videos!

Thanks for reading,

Chris

This can be fixed by deleteing the folders and contents where these settings are kept; on Windows this is in %APPDATA%\Adobe\Flash Player and %APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player.

I dont know where these are kept on a Mac; you should find this info in http://http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide.html

I just spent a while trying to do what you said to do, but when I looked in the document you cited, it seems to indicate this is the "mms.cfg" file -- the folder it says this file is in on a Mac didn't exist on my machine. I didn't find a Flash folder in any Application Support folders on my computer.

Do you know specifically what the files' names are which you think should be deleted? I can search for them if they're on my machine.

No, it is not the mms.cfg file.  Sorry, I don't know where these things are hidden on a Mac, but I know that other Mac users have found it in that Flash Player Admin Guide.
