Flash player still not working after following all discussion advice

Requested information:  I have Internet explorer 9/ using 32 bit on 64 bit computer/windows 7/flash player 10.2 version

I contracted what my husband called a "rider" virus when I opened a knitting pattern of all things and if I understood it correctly was one of the anti-malware viruses talked about.  My husband was able to remove the virus but like others have said here, my flash player will not work.  My computer is only 3 months old!

Here is what we have done:

1: First removed all flash player and shock wave

2: I have run a full scan with my Mcafee program, then ran a full scan and quick scan too with my malwarebytes program.  Everything in both is now clean.  I then rebooted (I also even tried doing all of this in safe mode too with nothing changing)

3: came online and read a bazillion threads about others problems and tried every suggestion pretty much including those below

4:  husband checked the kill bit (d27 thingy) and it was not there

5: reinstalled flash player and shock after running the scans and though they show up in my programs when I looked at the add ons as suggest to others the

neither shockwave or Flash Object was there

6: uninstalled everything again

So now I am back to where I started with nothing installed because I still have an issue and we don't know what it is.  I truly appreciate your help in any way as it is frustrating that none of the other suggestions have helped.

this may not as my grandma used to say have anything to do with the price of rice in china, but we do keep getting a short freeze up on the computer followed by a message that the display driver stopped responding and recovered then it works again, but it does happen fairly frequently and this has been since the virus.  I am showing everything is clean though with regards to virus scans and malware spyware scans.

May I just make a suggestion to folks reading this and other threads that are having trouble.  I too spent many days reading threads that matched my problem with our computer and followed each suggestion  tried and true without results.  That is all well and good and absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I found that in the end I found that getting frustrated for whatever reason at the folks here was unproductive. The IT people here suggest, start your own thread so do it. Give them the pertinent information up front and then explain the problem clearly and they will get it solved for you.  Ours was not a quick fix and took time and more than one day to work out, but in the end it was fixed.  Some of these problems can be quit wacky, but these guys are up to the challenge and that is what they are here for!  In my opinion, they need to be given big pats on the back for all they do.

    Uninstall/Install

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for FF- use the EXE Installer for plugin based (from the same site)
Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)

    Disable your Anti-Virus

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

Check to make sure the Anti-Virus is still Disabled

Run the Installer for IE, Run the Installer for FF and when finished, Reboot.

    Re-enable your Anti-Virus & Firewall if disabled

Then go to this test site and test each browser:  You should be able to see the Flash Player logo animation and the version of Flash Player 10.2.159.1.

If you have any questions before you begin, let me know.

Ok, this morning I let my husband follow your suggestions and this is what he told me to tell you:

1 when he clicked on the first link to the uninstaller he got a broken link message at adobe

2 he did the install for IE no problem

3 he then installed flash player but still doesn't work.  He said shockwave player does not show up in the add ons

He asked if you would send list of registry and their entrys for flash player so he can manually check them

    Tx

Hi, The Uninstaller link is a working link. What may have happened is that he didn't come to the thread and use the links I inserted there. The links that show in the email notification message don't always work due to some script issue.

The instructions I posted must be followed, other wise I have no idea what has been done or what the results are.

I may want to mention I have been dealing with Malware/Viruses/Trojans and worse for over 3 months and the procedure I listed is part of that. Checking for the Kill-bit was one step. The Uninstall/Install procedure is the next step. If it works, then we are done. If it doesn't, then the results will give me information on how to proceed.

Each step that I posted has a reason behind it and I've been thru this many many times. Each computer is configured differently and there is no one "fix" for all after a Virus attack.

It is best that no Registry Keys be changed or modified or deleted by anyone.

    Thanks,

Hi, What program did your husband use to remove this malware? Also did the program make a log on the name and location of the malware that was Installed? Virues/malware depending on where it Installed can cause damage or setting changes to your system, so it's helpful to know what it was and where it Installed.

Do you have a paid version of McAfee?

Aside from the malware issue, you may need to go to the manufacturer's site and update your display driver. You would probably need to do this anyway.

    Thanks,

My husband said that he went onto his laptop and looked up information about this malware and how to get rid of it and it suggested checking the registry keys and deleting them, which he did.  He said that is all he did.  Like I said, I have run both McAafee and Malwarebytes scans and both come back clean.  (these are both paid versions by the way)

Ok, on to the next thing I guess.   Oh and tx for the answer about the other thing!

Thanks. Since the Flash Player Installer writes to the Windows Registry, I have no idea what Registry Key(s) were deleted.

However, the Shockwave Flash Object, which the FP Installer Installs into the IE browser is not being Installed. That is the reason even tho you are showing Flash Player Installed, this addon is the Control for Flash Player. Now just to be sure that no Kill-bit has been set which would prevent this Control from being Installed, I'd like you to check again.

Just look for this Key for now.

open the registry editor: Start | Run | type regedit.exe
    navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
if that key does not exist, then the "kill-bit" for Flash Player is not set
if it contains a DWORD entry with the name Compatibility Flags that has any value other than 0x00000000, then the "kill-bit" for Flash Player may be set

Read this carefully. You are just looking for this information. Don't do any changing or anything but look.

After running the scans and Uninstalled and Installed Flash Player then, did you use the manual method? Also did you Disable McAfee & MBAM both?
