Flash Player unable to proceed with the installation

I have difficulties installing the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (14.0.0.125) on my Mac OS X 10.9.3 (Mavericks). Every time I do so, it fails at 90% with the following error message.

Error: Unable to proceed with the installation

When I go to troubleshoot the problem, I find that I have version 13.0.0.214 of Flash Player installed on my system, and that the (alleged) latest version (for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8) is 13.0.0.201 (see following URL).

Further research has revealed that the latest version of Flash Player (for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9) is 14.0.0.125 (see following URL).

This is not the first time I have experienced problems upgrading Adobe Flash Player. I experienced a similar problem before upgrading to Mac OS X 10.9 except with different version numbers of the same software. That is, the version that was installed was greater than the version that was downloaded. Note that I did not experience this problem with prior versions of the OS (i.e. Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7).

This time I went one step further and used a different default browser to locate, download and install (what I presumed was the latest version of) Flash Player. No difference....

My question is, why does my default browser point to an older version of the installation software, and how can I resolve this? Also, correct me if I am wrong but, the reason I have a 'later' version of the software (that is, version 13.0.0.214) is due to the OS upgrade? I do not recall ever upgrading Adobe Flash Player....

Not sure whether or not this is relevant, but I also have Adobe Creative Suite 5 installed on my system (which was also successfully upgraded during all OS upgrades).

got it. I suffered two years with this problem but only on one system with the only resolution being to download a different installer. SMH

The problem is a permission issue with the installer trying to use a directory that is only accessible by root. The folder path is visible in the log output throwing the error 30 message. To fix this problem, you have to temporarily allow the installer access to the root directory. Open terminal and type the following (if prompted for a password in terminal, use your logon password):

cd /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000

sudo chmod 777 T

Now run the installer. After it completes run these commands in the terminal.

sudo chmod 700 T

This will put the permissions back to where they were.

This problem will happen even if you are an logged in as an admin on the system. I hope this helps someone - took me a few to figure out what was happening. I can't wait for the day when I can completely get rid of Flash...

This didn't work for me. Then, when I type in sudo chmod 700 T, I get the message that there is no such file or directory.

I was able to download only after going to direct url and bypassing the package. I didn't have to uninstall old program. I don't have url handy - just google direct url for adobe flash player for safari 14. Hope it works for everyone!

flashplayer 14.0.0.125, for Firefox, not only wouldn't install (Adobe F-P Installer screen 'blank', just sits there... Forever) it removed every* other saved version I had saved (in binary files, in case of emergencies). Now* am stuck* with Shockwave Flash 13.0.0.214 only, according to Add-Ons &* the Windows Downloaded programs (under Add/Remove Programs).

After reading all the above, I see I'm not the only one, nor the only OS (btw, it wouldn't install in IE either, but I think that's because I'm still stuck with XP sp3, and IE8 is as far as I can go with it*)... and I don't know how to find, or supply, the 'Log Files'. I will try the supplied link though...(Thank You*).

What happened..??

I'm getting the same problem on Mac OS X 10.9.3. I've downloaded the most recent installer (AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_14_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg) and get the "Unable to proceed with the installation" error

Thank you all for providing the log files. They provided valuable information and we have been able to reproduce the issue. To bypass installing Flash Player using the installer from get.adobe.com/flashplayer, you can download the offline installer available here Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers). This offline installer will install without returning the error.

UPDATE: I have found a workaround to my problem. Rather than upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player through System Preferences, I first uninstalled the older version by following the instructions of the following link.

Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS

I then downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player from the following link.

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_player_14_osx.dmg

Therefore, it appears that the problem lies with the update program and not my system configuration. It would be good to find out what causes this problem so as to avoid/resolve similar issues in the future....

Thank you! I spent over an hour struggling with this bug (all so I could send my hubby a birthday e-card), trying methods from several forums (fora?). Yours was the one that finally worked on Mac 10.9.3. (I downloaded the installer w/ Firefox 30.0 rather than Safari 7.0.4, which I had used for earlier attempts. Not sure if this made a difference.)

Glad that my post was able to help you. Note that it does not make a difference which browser you use. Theoretically, Flash Player should work on any browser regardless of the one you used to download the install/update software. Correct me if I am wrong....
