Flash player update.app not running from dmg

I got a prompt from Safari to say I needed to update my Adobe Flash Player, so I followed the instructions and downloaded the dmg file from https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/…. Then I opened the dmg, opened the installer app.... and nothing happened.

Please will you put a functioning file there, and do so quickly. BTW, I'm in the UK.

MacBook Pro (2012), OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.5

Safari v. 9.1.1 (11601.6.17)

Downloaded file: AdobeFlashPlayer_22au_a_install.dmg

    Please do the following:

Launch System Preference > Security and Privacy > General tab.  In Allow apps downloaded from the: section, which option is selected?  If Mac App Store and identified developers is not selected, please select this option.

    It was selected.

I have now succeeded in completing the update. I decided the OS was getting tired, so I closed down, gave it half a minute rest and booted up from scratch again. Then, before loading any but the start-up programs, and before Safari, I loaded the dmg, clicked the installer, and all went as usual. So, if you come across that again, suggest the client does a complete power-off and reboot.

Another thing you may want to take note of is that every time I have done an update I clicked on the 'Allow Adobe to install updates' button, as prompted in the preliminary stages of the update. When you prompted me to go to System Preferences I checked the Flash Player preferences and found that it had the 'Notify me to install updates' button selected. I've now changed that to 'Allow Adobe to install updates'. I hope that now updates will install without me having to help them! You may want to amend the text at that preliminary stage to suggest people check their SysPrefs setting is also set to the recommended selection.

Thanks for your help. It may not look as if you provided the solution, but your input helped me to find the solution.

Does the installer UI window actually display and is unresponsive or does it fail prior to that?

If the install window displays, please provide the 2 log files, Adobe_ADM.log and Adobe_GDE.log, located in ~/Library/Logs/Adobe_ADMLogs.  Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document and post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.

    Thank you.

No activity visible after the install.app icon does its little shimmy to show it's trying to launch, and 'Install Adobe Flash Player' appears in the Force Quit window.

I did. I Force Quit the Install Adobe Flash Player that was showing in the Force Quit window; I deleted previous dmgs from Downloads. I clicked on the download button and got the new AdobeFlashPlayer_22_a_install.dmg (not AdobeFlashPlayer_22au_a_install.dmg any more), opened it up; and install.app was there.

I double-clicked on the app, and got the warning that this was an internet downloaded file, did I want to continue? Answer, Yes. At that point, the app did nothing further that was obvious. It's still running, as far as the computer tells me, but it's not appearing on the list of programs when I do cmd-Tab, and I can see no evidence that it's running other than its appearance in the Force Quit window.

    So what's going on?

Looks like you posted at the same time I was composing my comment.

Does the prompt for your password display or does it hang up prior to that?
