Flash player update causes problems with dithering in MSPaint

Since ADOBE has no contact i am posting it here. i know nobody on the community can help.

I had just updated flash player on my computer to the latest version and a function in MSpaint has changed (windows XP). The update is the only thing that i am aware of that has changed.

What i normally do is scribble with pencil, then i copy and paste it so that my drawing is diagonal by one pixel (so the lines are thicker), then I save as GIF (which has limited colour platte) then i use stretch/skew to shrink it by 50% so its a smaller file size/resolution (and lines remain crisp). Now, after i shrink it, it introduces coloured artifacts (dithering), it is no longer a Black and White pixelled image!  besides going gray and clarity loss, it makes it difficult to make changes to the file in the future.

I think i have had to change my method in the past because of something (probably grayscale blurring/dithering), now i need the extra step of saving first as a B&W bitmap and then saving (which will not preserve any colours if i chose to use them - because the dithering effect also applied when manipulating a 16colour bitmap - so there is no workaround for colour).

I have tried uninstalling but doesnt work (and after reboot). So they have "updated" something.

Normally paint does dither when saving a 24 bit coloured image into GIF, but not with resizing.

Charlie.

tags are: MSPAINT paint resize BMP bitmap GIF dithering bug

(both interfaces for adding tags to post does not work, edit, and clicking to change tags).

EDIT:

the last time i made such an image and it still worked was yesterday at 11AM. So i am reasonably certain this product is the problem.

P.S. The reason why i disable auto-update is because of the movie I,Robot - and it is a good decision, I would not have known otherwise!

Flash Player does not interact with MS Paint, nor does it change pervasive system settings.  It's a browser plug-in.

Flash Player pushes updates on Microsoft Patch Tuesday, in tandem with many other vendors in the industry.  While you may have noticed the symptoms and a Flash Player update on the same day, that relationships is most likely correlative, not causative.

If you haven't rebooted the machine since you updated, I'd start there.  If that doesn't work, I'd start walking back recently applied Windows Updates, and perhaps take a look to see if my graphics drivers were updated recently.

browser plug in: that was what i thought too, but its the only thing that has change, its not possible for it to be anything else...

MS patch tuesday: as i said in the first post (after i updated it), i disable updates as much as i can, and in this case, the Update Service is disabled - so there is no way for MS interferance on this one, sorry (unless the flash installer also installed a MS update or copied an updated MS file during the installation).

(i did update the post to say problem exists after uninstall AND reboot).

so I will post the bug report (sooner or later).

My first thought was "how do i find the files which uses flash player to run"

and secondly, i thought id better look at the bug reporter to see if it gives steps to find out (so i didnt have to ask),  but after clicking your link and clicking "new bug" and logging in, i get a redirect circle. (endlessly redirects).

So, I cant do anything at the moment.

    Charlie.

    Hi,

If the content is flash content you can check if it is Flash content or not by right clicking on it.

If it shows Flash player version then it is Flash content.
