Flash player using excessive CPU

I have the latest version of flash player on my lap top and it seems to be running all the time and using excessive CPU capacity even though I am not browsing or otherwise using the internet. Anyone ahve any thoughts on this? Is it typical to run all the time? I am no computer wizard....obviously.
