Macromed/Flash Files:

     Flash10o.ocx

     FlashInstall.log

     FlashUtil10o_ActiveX.dll

     FlashUtil10o_ActiveX.exe

     Install.log

BTW - For some reason I can not post messages from the computer having FP issues - get and error message when I stry to POST - bad omen!!

Thanks for any help

I am looking for some assistance with downloading Flash Player...every time I try to download, it does not work.  In the Download Manager window, it reads Error: Installation Failed.  I can't get any more information on why it failed, it just failed.  This happens when I try to download through Internet Explorer.  When I try to download through Mozilla, a window pops up that there has been an error and do I want to send an error report?  I click yes and then I am still stuck without the download.  I just need help!!  I enjoy watching episodes of certain shows online and without this feature, I am unable to watch.   Thank you to anyone out there who can help me with this problem.

Hi, Just so you won't get tired of me harping on this Kill-bit Key, I'm going to have you use the solution to remove it. That way if it's there it will be removed and if it's not, no problem:-)

    Thanks,

P.S. Do you know how to extract a file from a zipfile?

    April 7, 2011

    eidnolb,

Disregard EVERYTHING I said in Post 3.  There were two files in my registry that were VERY, VERY similar - just one number different and with my old eyes I didn't see the difference.

Be assured that file  D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000  does exist and is in the location referenced in your Post 11,  BUT IT DOES NOT have a Compaibiliy Flag with DWORD.  Under Name, it says Compatibility Flags --- Under Type, it says REG_Z,  Under Data it has a single value of 0

In response to your last question - I don't know if I know how to extract a file or not - seems that my E-Mail server just does it by itself!

Thanks again for all your efforts,

Hi Jim, It appears now that you don't have the Kill-bit set. Thanks for re-checking. It's easy to miss certain Keys, I've heard there are only 3 to 4,000:-)

We are going to try to Uninstall/Install again by following my instructions. You are going to be offline & not be on the Internet, so Disabling Norton won't be an issue. Just follow the steps here.

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock) Any AOL icon also

Disable Norton as you have already done PLUS this: Under Miscellaneous Settings, Disable Norton Product Tamper Protection

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
Check to make sure that all components of Norton are still Disabled
Run the Installer for IE,  and when finished, Reboot.

    Re-enable Norton and:

Then go to this test site and test each browser:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

    Hopefully this will work.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

Everything looks right to me by the above...

Can you see the Flash animation (rotating red 'F') at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

There is nothing but a static F outline AND nothing in the Version Information box.

I have been reading the many posts on this problem and was drawn to the "kill-bit" discussion and registry entries you discussed.

On the computer that I am having a problem with there IS a registry key (?)  LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ ................D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-444553540000  with a DWORD entry of 0x00010000 (65536)

There is also a SECOND line with the same registry key (?) with a DWORD with something called "Type" RZ_SZ with an entry of 0

FYI -- The first, above, has part of it's entry name as "-11cf-"  the SECOND has part of it's entry name as" -11CF-"

Don't know if any of this could be my problem, BUT my other computer, Windows 7 (64 bit), which is working just fine, has NONE of these registry keys.

    IS THIS OF ANY HELP???
