Flash Player Won't Play .flv Files

Hey all! 🙂 I wonder if you can help? I was in class and our teacher had us download some videos from youtube.com through techcrunch.com which converts the videos to .flv. These are educational videos for use in the classroom so copyrights are respected. The problem comes in when we try to play the .flv files. They won't play in the Flash Player. They do play in the Adobe Media Player, the Windows Media Player, and the VLC Media Player. Just not the Flash Player. Can anyone explain why? I mean, .flv stands for Flash Video, right? So, doesn't it stand to reason that .flv files should play in the Flash Player or did I miss something?

Your assistance is appreciated. You'll be helping a group of teachers learning to use CS3 in the classroom deliver the excellence our kids deserve, too! :)

Thank you,

Mike

The same problem has happened to me since the latest update of Flash player...
I can't see the .flv files with Firefox... but it works well with Internet Explorer.
Is it the same for you ?

Yeah mine won't either. I downloaded the latest version of Flash Player, ran the version checker - OK. I double-click a .flv file on my desktop and all I get is some stupid blank window with a title bar that says: Macintosh HD: Library:Documentation:Help:Hewlett-Packard:shrd:flashplayer

Heaven knows what Hewlett Packard has to do with the flash player file of a guy demonstrating something on facebook!!! I spent ages navigating all Adobe's help and support pages and there was nothing simple I could understand about this problem. It was tons of nerdy stuff for video heads, nothing useful like "how to make flv files just play"!

Flash Player is a browser plugin, not a standalone player.  Use Adobe Media Player to view FLV files.
