Ok. LOL. I was reading the problems you were having and reading what you have tried so far, but I couldn't help but laugh. I've been in your shoes but under different curcumstances. I'm an above average user (pretty smart when it comes to computers, Electronics Technician in the Navy) and my father is a retired Computer Technician (IT and Tele-Communications). So I like to think I know a few things. The reason you can't delete the .ocx  flash files directly is because those are considered system files (since they are in the System32 folder, the Adobe Flash folder has inherited those same permissions and restrictions) and you are not running as an (approved) administrator (which you know). You ARE running as an Administrator if you are the sole user of the system and are not working under a user created account. The problem in under the System32 folder, your not listed as the Administrator/User with full control capability. I know you already dragged them out, deleted them, and tried installing Adobe Flash 10.  It's a  built in security feature put in place by Microsoft to help keep  spyware, adware, viruses and accidental user deletion from harming the OS. In your list of add-on's you did not have flash listed  as a plug-in or active-x. It has nothing to do with your toolbars you  have installed or your java. First off, disable your UAC (User Account Control)(You can turn this back on later if your paranoid about security, and do not have any anti-spyware and anti-virus software installed). Go to control panel. Start then click control panel. Then in  the top right corner of that window is a search bar that should say  "search in control panel". Type in UAC. This should bring up your UAC  which is by default set to medium or so. Turn this all the way off by sliding the bar to the bottom. Restart your computer. (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/) Once rebooted,  this should give you full access to most things in the computer. Some  system files may require you to take or "Inherite permissions" before  they can be modified. You can google how to take permission of system  files (or read below). Then go here:  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html. Scroll down, download, then install  the active-x and plug-in for Windows. Then check in your add-ons in IE8 and it should be there. If not try viewing a website with a flashplayer. For example, go to www.armorgames.com then just click any random game. Those are all flash based games and if your flash player is working the game will work. If you still see a red "x" then you may have a flash blocker  installed as an add-ons or in your add/remove programs (I'll guide you through those steps if this doesn't work). The IE8 by default (security settings) will not block flash player. If you have anymore questions, just let me know and I will be glad to help you.

Here, I took an extra step to help you out, and found something very easy for you to do when trying to take ownership of files (assuming your still having issues after turning off the UAC) Go to this link and follow the instructions.

I have turned off the UAC but that did not help. I do not have an X on the

flash active X or plug in anymore, it is just not working.

Hi Jewel, It appears you have Vista and IE8 permission and Administrator issues. In post #12 & 15, try that and see if

it works. If it doesn't then here is the link to call toll free Microsoft. You have to be able to run in Administrator mode and you have to have permission to uninstall and install.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/call-us.aspx

I don't know why you don't have permission Jewel, but that issue along with being able to run as Administrator needs to be solved.

Microsoft should be able to help you.

    Thanks

Hi Jewel, I have seen that you responded on a couple of different threads. It is best to start your own thread which you have done.

What version of Vista are you using and what browser or browsers are you using?

Go to Add/Remove and list what of Adobe is there. Also if DLM is listed.

If you are using IE, go to Tools>manage adds ons and list everything that is listed there, include "currently loaded" and

"have been used" and whether they are Disabled or Enabled.

What firewall do you have and what Anti-Virus/spyware is running?

List any Third party toolbars that you have installed, i.e., AOL, Yahoo, Google, etc.

Any or a combination of these could cause a conflict with an uninstall and an install.

    Thanks

Hi Jewel, Thanks for the info. What I would like for you to do first is go to C:\Windows\Systems32\Macromed\Flash.

Right click on the Flash folder and tell me everything that is listed there.

In your info, you did not have any listing of Java in your Add/Remove?

Also in your manage add ons, look at the Java and give me the complete info that is listed on each entry for Java.
