FLASH V.23.0.0.162 Won't Install on MAC OSX 10.11.6 (El Capitan)

I have to update my Flash player v.22.0.0.209 on my MacBook but every time I download the update for v.23.0.0.162 it downloads the file fine but the act of installation doesn't happen. The file will try to open and for awhile it seems to be working but then it just stops responding. My Mac more than meets the minimum system requirements but for some reason it won't let me update. Others say uninstalling Flash and trying to reinstall it only leaves you without Flash at all.  Can anyone help?

Thank you very much.

What is the name of the file you are using?

Is there an error?  If so, post a screenshot of the error

The file name is AdobeFlashPlayer_23_a_install.dmg, or AdobeFlashPlayer_23ppau_a_install.dmg, if I choose to open it using the browser instead of downloading it and then opening it in Finder. There isn't an error message, it just stops responding. The installer icon in the dock stops bouncing instead of opening up the typical installer-type screen, and when I check it to see if it's safe to restart Firefox or another web browser, it says it's stopped responding. Each time I restart Firefox (my preferred web browser) I'm informed again that I need to update Flash, so the install has failed each time. The problem, I'm guessing, is not the updated version of Flash, but the updating/installation program. Hopefully this will help me and others who are having the same problem. To be clear, this is once the disc image has been mounted and you click on the "Install Adobe Flash Player.app" File Icon. I will try to take a screen shot of what it looks like at the last step before the installation process stops responding so you can see what I'm clicking on at that point and hope that helps even more.

Thank you again!
