Question

Flash videos just keep loading in Firefox & Chrome, except on certain sites like YouTube and Vimeo

OS: Windows 7 32-Bit
Web Broswer: Firefox 15.01

Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 11.4.402.26

Hi guys,

Ever since the end of June, I've been having this problem with my browsers where some videos just show the rotating loading symbol, but never play. Sites that I know still work are: Youtube, Vimeo, CollegeHumor, and BlogTV. Sites that don't work, however, are Sockshare, Putlocker, Mental Zero, and many videos on the Pornhub network. It recently began to work again, but ever since last week, I've begun having this problem again. If it makes any difference, most of the videos that don't work seem to be JW Player videos. Another thing is that shorter videos usually do eventually play if I leave them loading for a few minutes. My roommate is experiencing this same problem on his own computer. I've tried uninstalling flash player, reinstalling flash player, getting an older version of flash player, and nothing seems to fix this problem. Could someone help me with this?

Thanks.

I've had the very same problem for the last three versions of flash player.  Something made me open up task manager, and I watched as flash player load over 30 (thirty) times.  I've been through my personal computer numerous times since this has started, and it IS clean.  I loaded v18 on 06/15/15 late in the day, watched the progress via task manager, and it worked fine.  On the date of this message, I went to a site that normally loads quickly, but was taking forever to load.  Opened task manager, flash player had loaded it's self over 20 times, and was still going.  I've tried loading past versions also, to no avail.  The only solution I've come up with is to just unload it from my system, and drive on.  It's no big deal, because I spend very little time watching videos, except when I'm on facebook.  My addons are at a bare minimum.....1. Ghostery.

Tested in Browserstack on an old Chrome 29 and Flash player v11 and problem doesn't happen. I don't know when the problem began to happen, tried with player v13 on Firefox and the problem still happens.

I'm out of ideas.  I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't see this on an identical, clean machine, but I don't know what it is that causes the behavior.  Does this happen with current versions of Firefox?

yes, it's happening with the latest firefox and the latest plugin (v18)

Same problem here, viewing the network logs I can see that the loading of the video keeps "pending" until the external file is loaded then on data finish the normal loading resumes. All my movie/swf loaders keeps frozen and only at last second show any progress.

So the problem is with loading any external content on flash, not just the videos.

I tested with an old flash plugin v11 and there's no problem. Don't know how to fix it, beause everything was loading fine just some time from now.

If you create a new Windows user with a clean profile, do you see the same issue there?

If using Firefox, go to addons and select disable, save, then reopen the the addons and reactivate. This should solve the problem, it has for me.

You can do that, but I wouldn't recommend it.  You're missing a few years of security fixes.

Disable the flash plugin that came with the BROWSER.

Type "chrome://plugins" in www box to access for chrome.

An update -- the videos were working great at the start of the month until now. I woke up to an "Updates for Windows were successfully installed" notification on my computer. Also, it wanted me to update Shockwave, so I did. Now the videos aren't working again.

Same issues here.  I don't think it's a network issue.  Only happen on my new Acer laptop with a Nvidia 650M video card.  Running Firefox 15 or IE 8.0 with Windows 7.  My older desktop has no issues at all at the exact same time and same video.

Eventually the video will play on the laptop, but takes almost 5 minutes sometimes. Plays right away onthe desktop. Desktop is Windows XP with IE7 and Firefox 15.  I thought it was the Optimus settings, but it didn't make a difference no matter how I set it up.

Some sites load, many don't unless I wait.

I have this same problem. Started about a week ago. I couldn't play any videos from sites like blip. I figured it was slow connection, server problems... but I just tried an experiment. I let an episode of deep space nine load for over an hour with the little flash thingy circling endlessly and no video playing. Then suddenly the video started playing and the entire video had loaded.

So, obviously there's some setting that's gone wacky. Youtube videos play right away and buffers normally. I'd had this problem on virtually every flash video site except for youtube and Hulu, the videos start playing as soon as they've buffered a little. Same problem on every browser I tried.

And, no I haven't found any real solution.

Yeah, Blip doesnt' seem to be working for me, either... do you have no problems with Vimeo, as well?

Haven't tried it, but this wait for it to load thing is working for me. It's taking forever but the videos are playing eventually. Flash is downloading the entire video before the swirling thingy goes away and the video plays.

No settings have had any effect, and strangely downgrading to flash 10.3 had no effect so if it's not flash I can't begin to guess what it might be.
