flash won't install-desk top mid 2011- el capitan- 10.11.15

Question

Hi, I tried to find solution in other threads and internet search. I have done so many things. This is at least my third attempt of multple hours, installing and uninstalling, deleting cookies, restarting, attemtting to delete directories/caches...

I unstalled shockwave director...thinking maybe that was causing some conflict. I do not it in disabled files later (if I even sound rmotely like I know what I am talking about- I don't- I've just tried to follow multiple steps).

Currently, if I unstall, it says it's uninstalled-- it asks me for my main computer password. if I try to download another copy, it downloads, i click on install icon and it bounces... it never opens, it never gives me an error message, it never asks for my password (main computer).

I appreciate any advice that might work.

If you haven't rebooted yet, that's a great place to start. At minimum, it will eliminate a bunch of potential roadblocks for other steps.

Once you've done that, proceed with the rest of this:

For the password:

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.

If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt. If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.

If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.

Check for and repair any corruption discovered on your hard disk (backup up critical files before performing disk maintenance is always a good idea):

While you're there, choose Repair Filesystem Permissions (Verify will frequently return clean, but then Repair will still fix a bunch of problems).

Once that's done, let's reinstall:
