Flash9b.ocx crash once again

Hi, all

I'd really like to see an official message from Adobe concerning the issue with Flash9b.ocx crashing in IE. Surely they must have received a lot of messages from disgruntled users.

I work for an online newspaper and we have several hundred thousand page impressions every day. And for lots of users our front page causes the Flash player to crash. It's practically impossible to isolate which banner ad(s) that will lead to a crash.

My theory is that there are certain ActionScript commands that are handled in a different manner in the new player, while swfs that contain only animation will work.

    Also,
I just tried to install 9d.ocx using the old archives zip files that Adobe provides; however, even after unistalling 9e, when i try to install 9d i get a pop-up saying there is a newer version and I can not continue? Is this because of orphans laying around somewhere? I use the Flash uninstaller as well. Now that I think about it, 9d was the most stable version yet on my system.

Negative, vain68, You lost the clue. First install normally - with or without installer etc - the E version. Then copy the two D-files (to the same directory for convenience), delete E-files and rename D ==> E.

In this method the original install process of E-type sets up registry and registers the ocx. Then we change the executables and they will run using E-type's settings.

Using installer when connected to internet results to automatic upgrade.

Why is it when I try to delete the e files that it says that they are running (hence can't delete)???....I have everything shut down except Windows main..........I already remained old d files to e (i just moved the e files to desktop before deleting)....but now I can't delete them yet...going to try and do safe mode.......

thank you so very much for all your efforts in developing Flash for linux.

    Ok,

my IE crashed every time I went to page with flash content in five seconds. Just boot, run IE and go to www.adobe.com. After 5 seconds IE crashes. My second PC does not. And the BIG difference is just one bit: the working machine runs Flash9d.ocx, the non-working Flash9e.ocx.

Solution: I copied d-files on top of the e files, leaving registry as it was, and yes, here we go again, no crashes.

    Ling-Ling,
which version of Flash is the d.ocx versus the e.ocx. Both are version 9 yes? I had the D on before and I experienced the same you noted. I think I accidentally updated to e and now all gangs of problems have ensued...is there a download link for the d.ocx?

    Hi all,

I still experience problems, but less than before, thank God.
Sometimes I have only one window open with a Flash chat and not even logged in, and Flash makes IE7 to crash. (or the other way around) ;)

Wow this is a heavy bug, it takes forever to solve.
Good luck guys (and gals) at Adobe. We hope you come with a solution soon.

By the way, IE8 is beta now, maybe look into that too, how it works with Flash, maybe we can slove problems before they appear.

    Norton Systemworks has found
    "CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32," refers to a missing file, "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx."
My WXP SP2 does not have a "system 32" nor does a search find Flash9b.ocx. My system will crash for no apparent reason. Trying to see if this is related. How do I change the pointer and if I do need Flash9b.ocx, where do I get it from and where should I place it.

I can second emilejs report above:

"using a textfield with a stylesheet applied as a mask for an item attached from the library was the cause of my problem."

I also get the crash when using a textfield as a mask (but no stylesheet applied in my case).

    Hi,

It seems Adobe still hasn't addressed the issue properly. Crashes are still a problem.
