FlashPlayer 10.1 installed, why am I told to download FP to view web video?

I can not download or view website videos because site is telling me that FP is not installed or I do not have up to date FP.  I DO HAVE FP 10.1 installed, I do see the animation at FP home page and it shows the latest version in the box.   I have checked "manage add ons" and FP is enabled.  I have rechecked privacy settings and those settings are enabled that pertain to FP and scripting.  I check add/delete programs and FP 10.1 is there also.

I am running windows XP, 32-bit, IE8.  I have disabled my AVG, disabled my Spybot, uninstalled FP with there uninstaller, rebooted comp. and reinstalled FP several times to no avail.  I am logged in as admin. and only one that uses this computer.  I have read most like posts but am at wits end.

Everything worked fine prior to yesterday when I updated Flash Player and Shockwave Player.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

    Correct answer

Yes on the restart or reboot.

Add ons Shockwave Flash Object and Shockwave ActiveX Control both enabled.

Add or Remove Programs list Adobe Air, Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Adobe Reader X and Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.

You were saying that the " version numbers must match"?  Please clarify.  It appears I have non matching versions...is that correct?

I thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated!

Hi thanks, then we are ok on the FP and add ons. By matching, I meant if you have FP vs 10.1.102.64 Installed (per the test site that confirms this which I think you said you checked) then the Shockwave Flash Object should be the same version.

The version numbers for Shockwave Player of course would be different.

Did you get a chance to check youtube for videos? I see that you were ok on MSN.

    Thanks,

Hi, well it sounds like you have done a lot of checking. There could be a couple of reasons why you are being asked at the websites. Sometimes an older Flash file doesn't get removed when Uninstalling is one and the websites see it. So it is best to check that. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed there.

Make sure that in Tools, Internet Options that the Security is set to Medium for the Internet Zone.

Are all websites asking for an update, or just one?

    Thanks,

    Flash 10l.ocx    ActiveX Control

    Flash Util 10l_ActiveXdll   10.1.102.64

    instal.log     Text Doc

    Flashinstall.log   Text Doc

    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.exe     Adobe Flash Player installer

    Yes Security set to Medium

Not sure what other websites I can try to see if I get same message.  I will try a couple other and see what I get.  I was able to watch and download video from this site prior to yesterday and my FP update.

Checked video on my home page MSN and no problem playing news video.

Thanks. Your Flash files are correct and you said you have the Shockwave Flash Object in your add ons Enabled, so you shouldn't be having a problem. Since you have Uninstalled and Installed several times, you did remember to Reboot the last time? That can be overlooked sometimes, I know I have done it when in a hurry:-)

Since you have Shockwave Player Installed, you will also have a Shockwave ActiveX Control for it. I just want to be sure that you also have the addon that I mentioned above. Some users get the two mixed up, but they are separate. One is for Flash Player and one is for Shockwave Player.

The youtube website is always a good one to check. Something is blocking your Flash Player and what I have found is that once it is confirmed that the correct Flash files are Installed and the Shockwave Flash Object is correct (version matching the FP version Installed) and Enabled, then Anti-Virus/Spyware programs and browser add ons are suspect.

Let's confirm the FP SFO addon first.

    Thanks,
