flashplayer installation failure

Can anyone give me help regarding installing Flashplayer? I have a Dell computer using Windows XP. I cannot get Flashplayer to install. Followed suggestion to un install old Flashplayer and have disabled my antivirus protection. Install failed. Using Internet Explorer for browser.
