I upgraded the flashplyer to flashplayer 10.. that was 6 months ago.. to cut the story short , a user in the forum called Pati Willener suggested the following steps...

  • on Vista it may help to turn UAC (User Account Control) off before installing Flash Player; a Google search will tell you how to do that
  • download the Flash Player uninstaller from http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
  • close all browser windows and run the uninstaller
    • for Internet Explorer, start it via Start -> Run -> iexplore -extoff
  • install Flash Player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
  • check if installation was successful at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    • for Internet Explorer, click Tools -> Manage Add-ons
    • find Shockwave Flash Object, and make sure it is enabled (you may need to show All add-ons)
  • on Vista, turn UAC back on.

AND IT WORKED!!!   BUT, (here is the nasty part) it works only when the UAC is turned off.. every time I activate it on and access a website (like you tube for example) it says  " The latest flashplayer is not installed" ..  It works like a dream when the UAC is turned off but I don't wanna surf the internet with the UAC is off. is there a way to solve this problem?

Any help is appreciated..

I have had this problem forever and finally stumbled on a work-around. It's a pain and I shouldn't have to do it but it does work.

I downloaded the Adobe Uninstaller from the Adobe site and placed it on my desktop. Then I downloaded the installer for the latest version of Flash, it's the file that includes the Active X. I placed that one on my desktop.

I do this daily - once the machine has booted up I RIGHT CLICK on the adobe uninstaller and choose "run as administrator", then I do the same thing for the installer. I think "run as administrator" is the key.

Like I said, it's not ideal but it does work and it takes me about 20 seconds. I hope this works for you. I did not enjoy being without Flash.

I am running Vista SP1 and IE7 on an HP laptop. What was weird in my case is that I was always able to view YouTubes that were embedded in a website, but if I went to YouTube or Photobucket to try to view them I would get the error message saying that I don't have Flash installed. Very strange but I've learned to live with it.
