Forced install of McAfee

What happed to the option to opt out of installing McAfee?

There used to be a way to disable the McAfee from automatically installing with Adobe Flash & Reader. I just installed flash, and McAfee Security Scan Plus was forcefully installed. I retraced my steps to make sure I didn't miss the disable option and there was none.

Tricking people into installing programs they don't want was bad form back when RealNetworks used to play that trick. I've always been bothererd that Adobe stoops that low, but to force the install without asking is just unexcusable.

Can you describe what exactly you did?

There was a time when 11.7 updated to 11.8 that happened, but I thought that was fixed now.

I did a Google search for 'Adobe flash' and followed the result to here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_11_for_Other_Browsers&os=Windows%207&browser_type=KHTML&browser_dist=Chrome&d=Adobe_Photoshop_Lightroom_for_Windows_32-bit&p=mss&dualoffer=false

From this site I downloaded:

install_flashplayer11x32_itr5x32d_awc_aih.exe

If you go to the standard download site http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ you can disable the download of 3rd-party offers.

Or better, use the offline installers that are not bundled with any optional software:

Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)

Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
