    Hello,

I have the same problem as Bobbackwards.

I did steps 1-3 of SjesMe's method. The uninstall of Flash was successful. I used Disk Cleanup in Accessories to clean out temporary internet files, etc. Then on step 3 I clicked and installed the Flash Player. But I got the quotation marks " " after I clicked "Download Now."

"At this point check and be sure that you have a file named "Flash.ocx" in both your Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folders, as well as the "Flash9.ocx" in the Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder. If you do, you have a good install."

I then looked in the i386 folder and there was no Flash.ocx file. So what happens if I do not have a Flash.ocx file in the i386 folder? What should I do? Does this have something to do with the quotation marks " " appearing at the Get Flash page after clicking Download Now?

I have the same problem as SJesMe but when I download Flash, I don't get the animation that says "Adobe Flash Player Successfully Installed". It does show up in my control panel so it's installed, right?. I tried the fix above but still no luck. Javascript and ActiveX controls are enabled, and I have the latest J2SE Runtime Enviornment Update. I turned off Norton's pop-up blocker and the settings are on medium but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also have WindowsXP P and Internet Explorer 6.

    hi bobackwards!!!

Thank god im not the only one having the same problem. I have the EXACT problem as you too. I cannot watch clips on youtube.com and all i get is the sound! Its not just youtube, any other site that have embedded flash movies dont work either! I see the flash movies for a split second then it will disappear - am i right?

But I may have a solution for it. I say "may" because its not permanent - well it wasnt for me!!! What I noticed is that for some reason, when you try to uninstall flash player and have yahoo messenger running at the same time, then it wont uninstall completely!! If you close yahoo messenger and exit it also from your taskbar, then it will allow you to uninstall the flashplayer. Now the steps here on, im not sure which order I did them in but they did fix the problem for a couple of days. After succesful uninstallation, if you restart windows, you should try and install flash player then it may work. (Again i say "may" because it worked then and later my computer went back to this same problem). Let me tell you also, that yahoo messenger asks you if you want to install flash player after windows has restarted without you even goin to the adobe website to download flash player (thats because i have it set up to run yahoo messenger as soon as windows begins. I have the latest version of yahoo messenger with the facility of adding many plug ins for games etc but should it detect whether you have flash player or not, I dont know so thats why I'm hinting that it may have something to do with yahoo messenger! Something for adobe technicians to find about!!) Then from frustration i tried using the pathetic help tips adobe give, ive uninstalled and re installed flash player so many times I dont remember what order i did things in. I even phoned adobe to ask for flash player help but theyre not willing to help and all the guy said was that he cant help me anymore than what the website has which I thought was just silly!!!Now im back in the same position as you are and I can get any help.

    ***A GOOD FIX***
I was fighting with this problem for months and finally found a good fix. This is what I did:
    1. Use the uninstaller at Adobe's Web site following the instructions given here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
    2. Empty temporary files and internet cache and restart.
    3. Download the latest FlashPlayer version 9 from Adobe's web site here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

At this point check and be sure that you have a file named "Flash.ocx" in both your Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folders, as well as the "Flash9.ocx" in the Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder. If you do, you have a good install.

    4. Download Flash8.ocx from www.rrdownloads.net/Flash.zip (I'm sure this file must be buried on Adobe's site somewhere, but I couldn't find; nonetheless, this is a safe link)
    5. Unzip the active x file into your Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder
    6. In the same Windows folder, rename "Flash9.ocx" to Flash-9.ocx (or anything else)
    7. Then rename the Flash8.ocx (from the downloaded zip file) to Flash9.ocx

Restart et voila ... no more crash errors.

Also be sure you have Sun's Java J2SE Runtime Environment 5, Update 7 installed and any Pop Up or Ad Blockers turned off ... sometimes these will interfere in viewing flash content.

Caution: This fix has worked for me on a WinXP Pro and WinXP Home O/S, running IE6. I cannot vouch for any others. I hope it works for you!

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=4a8d52ae try this link for problems with flash 9. It might help although it didn't help me. My problem is alittle different. I can install flash with admin. account and it works fine but my user accounts cannot view flash. Been through all the forums, knowledge bases, etc.. I'm not blaming adobe but flash worked fine until it upgraded to flash 8.0.24, been problems ever since. Flash 9 has the same problem for me.
