It may have been starting in safe mode. Don't know how to get it into normal mode, even after navigating to the program folder manually it still did, although this usually fixes that. Perhaps the manual installer would help. I will take a look at the guide when I get the chance. It's on my older P4 computer that I don't normally use to browse the web as much anyway, just for uploading weather data. It would be nice to be able to get Flash working on it as the new National Weather Service radars are using Flash now. Thanks a lot.

Hi, Even tho I don't recall seeing your thread, glad to hear the manual installer helped. Thanks for taking the time to say so.

Yeah I get that too...It's a bug that started after installing Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP Professional Edition 32 bit with only Service Pack 2. This results in inability to install Adobe Flash Player. When you click on install Adobe Flash Player, instead of saying the usual "Install ActiveX Control" in the yellow bar at the top it says "Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled." I'm thinking maybe install SP3? It's kicking into addons disabled mode when I start the browser. It's almost definitely because of an error with something called Direct Access Component 1.0.0.1, I have no idea what that is and it tells me I need to run a diagnostic on it. However, when I click on run the diagnostic like it tells me to, it says I must upgrade to SP3. Anyone know how to fix this Access Component error?

Hi, What I see in your screenshot is in the body, your Security Settings are prompting the message that the Adobe Download Manager is wanting to Install an ActiveX. I wouldn't use that, since it can cause problems.

What I would do is go to the Troubleshooting Guide and read the Settings that are needed. You must use the Adobe Uninstaller first. Then page down to the Manual Installers and choose the one for Internet Explorer. Before you do that you must close all browsers, use the Administrator Account for Uninstalling and Installing. Also don't use the short cut, double click on the IE icon that is in your Task Bar or on your Desktop. Don't Start IE in Safe Mode.

    I hope this helps.

How do you start Internet Explorer - from a shortcut?  Check the shortcut's properties, i.e. if you are starting IE in Safe Mode (add-ons disabled) with the -extoff option.

Starting IE in safe-mode as you put it is what my problem was.  Right-click on the IE shortcut, click Properties, and in the "Target" field, at the end was -extoff, just removed the -extoff, clicked Apply then OK and it was fixed, thanks.
